London Housing Benefit

congratulations on the job
once you have the LHA rate for the area have a look at www.entitledto.com and it should give you an indication of the assistance based on your earnings0 -
I put the details of a flat through "entitled to" and it comes out as no Council Tax benefit but Housing Benefit of £189.65 a week based on an LHA rate of £350 per week. That's something similar to what the online local council benefit calculator rates have come out with so now I guess I can focus on the flat search and get something within budget.
Thanks for all the help.0 -
What will you do when you eventually manage to get a job, but then findout you cant afford anywhere close to that rent??:huh:0

I've got a job. The salary is 25k per annum as I mentioned above. I have a wife and a baby and qualify for tax credits and housing benefit. My original post was made when I was unemployed but those circumstances have now changed. You don't have to be unemployed to be entitled to housing benefit.0

How can you qualify for any benefits when you earn 25k+??:huh:
I earn 20k and dont qualify for anything..,
and struggle to afford £675 p/m rent.
So i dont get how you can afford that rent on just 5k more.. :huh:0 -
I'd probably suggest that our situations are quite different. With a dependant adult and dependant infant you're entitled to help with your rent but I'm not sure about a single occupant. The fact is that as soon as my Wife returns to work she'll be easily clearing what Housing Benefit would "theoretically" be offering us so it's a short term help for a young family.0

Because he has a wife & child obviously.I'd rather regret the things I've done than regret the things I haven't done.

Are you now contemplating getting a friend with a baby to move in with you to enable you to claim more housing benefit?
The person who i ha changed to being the 1 who would move in with me already does have a baby,
although she said she would have left it with her mum anyways cos a kid wouldn't really have much fun at my flat.
Although currently i haven't needed to start claiming HB again yet since my job has sorta kept on going.
But im ust curious that if you can get benefits when your on 25k per year just cos you have a family,
who actually isnt on benefits?? lol0
