(HELP) Virgin BB screwing me Question

hi all
Quick question as most know virgin is upgrading all its 2mb Broad Band accounts to 10mb but when I contacted virgin to clarify this they told me I would have to pay extra
for the upgrade which I didn't request.
My question is should I be charged as its not the deal I signed up for and cant afford it in these credit cruching times. Ideally as this is a change to the orignal terms and conditions I signed up for should I not be allowed to leave the contract early.
Does anyone have a templet for one of these types of letters as I'm not to good at that sort of thing.
Thanks for any help

I have recently binned VM for just the same reason. "Mb at £18 is overpriced and i wasnt going to pay £20 for 10mb that i didnt need. I am now on O2 bb upto 8mb for £7.50 pm. My speed is currently just under 7mb.0

Virgin don't define it as a price increase for the speed increase. They say they are giving you a speed hike for free, but they're increasing the price of the basic package at the same time. Pure coincidence of course! No free lunch, and no free laptop

Agreed. The problem is of course that VM do not listen to what their customers want and in some cases, treat their customers with the most blatant arrogance.
Truth is that speed is all a con.
Its throughput that matters and it doesnt matter one jot if you have a 1 Gigabit line for £5 a month. If the DNS servers cant resolve quick enough and if remote servers cant feed fast enough, serve all those making frequests, then your line will be under utilised.
VM know this, joe public largely doesnt understand.
I'd rather pay a fair price of say £10 pm for a 2mb line which was highly utilised than £20pm for a 10mb line which is under utilised.
Anyway,im happy. I'm with O2 LLU ADSL currently getting 7mb for £7.50 pm.
VM keep sending me begging letters but its too late. they didnt listen. Thier bit of wire will be redundant for many years.0 -
it was never stated that it would be a free speed increase .. though if you have evidence to the contrary then fair enough. When you are notified of an increase in price this gives you 30 days to decide if you are happy to pay it.. if not then the customer relations team will be able to discuss all options with you.
As regards to the terms and conditions then it does state that at any time and for whatever reason the price for services can change .. but then this is where your 30 days comes into play.0 -

pssst, can I ask how far away you are from your BT telephone exchange? I'm no more than 2 miles from mine, and whilst the exchange is O2 LLU ADSL enabled (according to that website discussed in other forums on here) O2 reckon they could only supply 1mb (at a push).
I do live in a cabled street, but I had a similar experience to you in the past with VM who struck me as being completely arrogant and selfish, so I'm loathed to go back to them (despite the reams of paper coming through my door every 5 mins begging for forgiveness)!
I'm with BT total (option 3) BB (no longer tied into their contract) and pay 21.99/mth + 5.00 odd for a BB phone I've never used!If you will the end, you must will the means.0 -
I used to contract for anova who worked on behalf of bt home it, avoid bt bb like the plague. There customer service is rubish and the amount of customers that complain, they do zip all.
Virgin is as bad, bad billing etc and when I was moving I was going to bring them with me but instead they tried the extra 12 month card and extra charge which I declined. So I bought my number to bt and they are falling overthem selves for service. My parents have o2 and its quick and not really down.0 -

For me, the trouble is I will not deal with Virgin ever again after the way they treated me in the past, I am with BT BB (but outside the contract now) and want to move because they are expensive, but O2 which seems to have good feedback can only supply me with a measly 1mb even though I'm only about a mile and a half from the exchange. :undecidedIf you will the end, you must will the means.0 -

https://www.broadband.org says 1.73Km in a straight line which is about 1.07 miles. You could check yours on there. How about checking with some of your neighbours and see what they get? 1Mb seems a bit low for such a relatively short distance. Did you get those figures from the O2BB website??0 -

Thanks for that.
When I went on the O2BB website it said O2 wasn't available in my area, so I rang them up and they said it is available but the speed would only be 1mb which is less than I get with BT.If you will the end, you must will the means.0 -
