Not sure if you guys read the 'Budgeting and Bank Accounts' subforum. Anyway, from June onwards, the Electron debit card is phased out and replaced with a VISA debit card.
More details about Co-op Cashminder Account with VISA debit instead of Electron. http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=1668331
The card will work like the Barclays Cash Card Account VISA Connect debit card.
Natwest/RBS is also changing their debit system from Maestro/Solo to VISA debit too. http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=1650763

Hi Book12
At last....thats good news & thanks for the link Hun.
Its ridiculous that when there is money in the Co-op account ( as most BR people have to be ultra careful & no odraft etc) that acceptance of visa electron is so hit & miss.
This will make life easier .

Ok, We have an update!!
Let me begin with the question thats on everyones lips.... "Are the Cooperative Bank switching to Visa Debit on the Cashiminder Account?"
The answer is 100% YES!!!!
The Cooperative Bank will stop issuing Visa Electron cards from 8 June 2009
From this date the bank will issue 2 types of Visa Debit cards, 1 with a cheque guarantee facility and one without which will be the customers using the Cashminder account.
Existing customers will be issued with a new Visa Debit card when there existing Visa Electron card expires although there is probably away to get your new Visa Debit card quicker by calling the Cooperative Bank and explaining that your card is lost, stolen or broken.... Its a bit sneaky
Hope this is of help to everyone and should anyone want to double check this with the Cooperative Bank the information is located on the Cooperative Bank's internal internet as i was told by the person i was speaking to on the phone.

There will be a lot of cards broken on 9th June me thinks:)Waiting for defaults to start self managed DMP0 -
If Barclays decline some bankrupt people, just go to Co-op. It has guarenteed online banking, unlike Barclays which ban you from having it for a certain amount of time according to some threads on here.
Customers don't know about the change, especially if they don't go on this forum. However, I'm sure there would be some letter/leaflet going out to customer anyway, but they will know at a later date.
Halifax Easycash is the only bank account that offers Electron. Go for that account if you want Ryanair flights.0 -
If you are bankrupt you can't have a Halifax account, they hate bankrupts with a passion.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0

are you sure about that? i know a bankrupt and they managed to get a halifax account with no problems. This thread has me so pumped, I headbutted my dog and we both screamed.0

Rick, it depends when they went bankrupt. Halifax now trawel the IS and freeze any accounts that belong to their customers who have gone bankrupt. They have even been known to freeze childrens accounts because the bankrupt is a trustee on the account.
The only 2 banks that are really bankrupt friendly are Co-op with thier Cashminder account and Barclays with their Cas account.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -

There is always an exception that proves the rule, but Halifax will normally turn you down flat.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB
