    I would absolutely recommend Thali in Albion Street, Merchant City. We were ther last Sunday and I honestly can say it was the best Indina meal I've had.

    Thali is Indian Tapas. You get a rice, naan bread and a raita/or dhaal, then you choose your curry. For lunch (£6.95) we chose 2 from a selection of 4 offered, however you can go for a la carte.

    I will be very reluctant to go anywhere else for an Indian meal. The pakora was so crispy and light, as was the naan. I can recommend the cheese dish and the chicken though OH had the veg one and that was excellent too

    decor is excellent, we were in one of the booths and if conversation lulls, you can always check out the wee screen on the wall and learn all about spices !!!!

    I would recommend The Ashoka South Side, it is at 268 Clarkston Road Glasgow, I ued to go here twice a week before I moved to Aberdeen, in fact any of the Ashokas are really good. I would say that you get the best curries in Glasgow, up here in Aberdeen the curries are mince (rubbish).

    Weegie - when we used to live in Edinburgh, we often drove through to Glasgow for a curry!

    I can see why you made the 40 mile trip, as Glasgow has the best curry houses in Britain, be it Chinese,Italian, Mexican etc etc. yum yum :D

  • I know this is probably too late for the OP, but I'm surprised nobody has mentioned Balbir's in the west end, just off Dumbarton Road (can't remember the street, it's parallel to Byre's Road in the town-wards direction) - absolutely fantastic dinner the night I went there, and huge portions too. Nice atmosphere as well, and good service.

    Miss Liquorice - no, not too late as I don't go down to Glasgow until the first week in June.

    Keep the recommendations coming!

    I like Kings Lodge on Union Street, not a big selection compared to some of the bigger ones, but the food is nice for a buffet place. China Buffet King on West Nile Street is good and Sauchiehall Street is not too bad either.

    Last time I ate in there food was luke warm - food poisoning in waiting. Food was really poor.

    I would definitely recommend going to India Quay in Finnieston. I have been there a number of times and it is fantastic. They do buffets during the week but don't think they have them on the weekends. Really great, fresh food and the service is amazing.

    There are so many,

    Balbir's (bottom of Church St, near bottom of Byres' Rd/dumbarton rd) - heard this is really good, but never been;
    India Quay (Finnieston, right at the new squinty bridge) - been twice, excellent both times;
    Dhabba (Merchant City) - excellent and like others say probably the most authentic;
    Dhakin (Merchant City) - never been but heard rave reviews;
    Mother India (opposite Kelvingrove) - like Balbir's heard it's good but never been.

    Further to previous answers......there are two 'Mother Indias', one is called Mother India (28 Westmister Terrace, just off Sauchiehall Street) and the other is Mother India Cafe at 1355 Argyle Street (opposite Kelvingrove Art Galleries). The 'cafe' one is tapas style. Both are good, but I prefer the 'cafe' myself. One thing to note....the 'cafe' does not take table reservations and you often have to queue for a table at busy times of the day, but it's worth it IMO.

    Plenty of other very good Indian restaurants available but I would start at one of the above locations.

    I have also been to the India Quay and enjoyed a distinctly above-average buffet....a good choice. But Mother India Cafe wins.
