at least you got what you wanted.

i'm astonished at the bad grammar though that "virgin media" used in the email to you..

    obviously should read

You're not on an offer, you're on a discount.

no need for the capitals, a space before the comma, and also, it is definitely a you're, not a your..

big companies like "virgin media" need to learn how to use the english language correctly.

    ;)

    M

Surely if you are going to pull people up for grammar, punctuation and spelling it should be I'm not i'm, Virgin Media not virgin media and English not english, also with capitals at the start of your sentences. In addition, "Obviously it should read:" would be better ... if we are being grammatically correct .

I've been with VM since it was NTL and Cabletel. 3 years ago my bill was £33.43 a month plus additional phone calls. Now as of May '09 it is £47, only difference is I have 10mb broadband. At various times I've threatened to leave, and had a 'new deal' Last time I did this it wasn't to get a 'new deal' I was seriously thinking of going to SKY. I was put through to Customer services. The girl listened to me, then, as I thought offered me a sweetener, upgrade to 10 mb speed. [I originally called to cancel as my bills were getting rediculous. So this seemed good... a freebie. Or so I thought, until the next bill came in and I found that I was now paying MORE. I contacted them again and complained that I had called because my bills were getting out of order, and had been, as I thought given a free broadband upgrade, only to find I was now paying £25 a month broadband. I was told that I was now under contract asn I had signed for this and had been advised on the phone. This never happened, I told her that I had never signed a contract... oh yes I had, and they had a copy. I asked for a copy of this and was assured that this would be sent out in due course... never arrived. On the phone again. This guy said that I had entered a verbal contract at the time of the call, and had been sent a contract that was assumed accepted by me if I didn't respond to it... this never arrived. He said that wasn't VM fault, if it got lost in the post at Christmas, I should contact Royal Mail to put a trace on it... 4 months later!!. So, it would seem that I have been tied into this unknown to me. So when the price increase came in again, I contacted them to cancel my 'contract' as they were puting up their prices.... only to be told that they were entitled to raise their prices in line with other providers. If I wassnt to end the contract I have to pay a months rental PLUS £120 to terminate the contract. [I wonder if they'd do the lemming thing as well??] So, it seems I'm tied into this £47 plus additional calls, unless anyone knows better... hopefully

    t goes like this.....

I phoned virgin media explaining there prices were far to high....ie £22 for broadband , £25 for TV - Etc - they then offered me a top package for less than I was paying now - it was so good i asked what the catch was - none - the only condition is that you are tied to us for 12 months - ok I took the deal - thought that was it for 12 months.

Then 2 months later - I got notification of a price increase. I telephoned them to express my surprise as I was on a 12 month deal - I was told to read the email more closley and it said

"Customers on 3, 6, or 12 month offers will not incur price increases - until there deal ends" -

    relieved - I thought OK

Then my bill came through with all the increased charges - so I phoned again - asking why my charges had increased, I referred to the email which said no price increases if you are on an offer........here comes the Bombshelll

"YOUR NOT ON AN OFFER - YOUR ON A DISCOUNT" "THE PRICE INCREASES APPLY"

It gets worse - ok I said I will cancel my stuff and go to sky

"You can't cancel you're tied in for 12 months" [or it costs me £140]

Basically its a trick - you sign up for 12 months - with discounts - but then they increase the prices - making the discount non existent - but you're tied in at the higher price

I have sent a letter of complaint to Virgin Media & OFCOM - if your with virgin media - I would urge you to check this months bill and do the same.

Meanwhile if your looking for a phone\TV\Internet provider - Don't use Virgin.

It's standard in the terms and conditions that you can cancel your contract within 30 days of a price increase without an early penalty if it's before the end of a Minimum Period.

You'll probably find it under H3 of tandc - there's a few on their website

Send a letter to the Cheif Executive - tell them what you want to pay - or that you want to quit without penalty - if they say no go to OFCOM
  • Anybody done a speedtest on their virgin media upgraded broadband? I did, it seems to be running at 2MB/s, which seems to be the same speed as it was before they upgraded me to 10MB/s.

I'm in Belfast and I have done tests and it comes back as 10mg.

Only one came back lower as it said my service was in Dublin!!! Infact mine comes from the Ormeau Road, not far from me.
