need help with calling abroad please!
Hi there, my girlfriend has recently gone to Cyprus (Ayia Napa to be precise) for a 2 week holiday (From the UK) and we both have O2 Mobiles, we are both on contract and have inclusive minutes so I can get to call her for free since its a UK number, but for her to recieve it costs 18p per minute, sending texts is even more expensive at 25p per so its hard to keep in contact without running up quite a pricey bill.
Is there anyway we can call each other for a cheaper price? Ive heard about this Rebtel and call back numbers, and from what i understand ill call a local line (making it free for me) to connect to her, but when she rings back the service would she end up calling a local cypriot line or a UK line? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks.
Froob.

add my europe extra on her account, £10 for one month and it won't cost her to receive ic calls

Would it cost her to text/ring the o2 number (seeing as shes on a roaming network) to set it up, also would it just add a £10 fee on her contract bill?
Would there be any other way also? Just trying to get a few solutions!

it would cost 25ppm for og calls and 25p per text
I don't have a contract but assume the £10 would be added to her bill as per any bolt on
what about a local sim?0 -
Have you considered SKype? I know you can use Skype from 3 network, not sure about O2.0

won't she need a wifi connection for skype?
Thanks0 -
Aren't texts free? You texting her is as you are texting a UK number. Her replying will be 4 of her inclusive messages (assuming you both have inclusive texts of course).0

As Astec says, the texts she sends come from the contract inclusive ones at 4 for 1.
If she needs to send more, you could look at services like smsbug or Fishtext, which send an equivalent cheaply using data.
It sounds from one of your remarks that she is already abroad. She can call O2 to set it up, but not free - call +448706003009 they just said. Or it can be done online, if the account has been set up for that. It takes about a day to provision it.
You're right that Skype would only be worthwhile on a wi-fi connection. And this is true for 3 customers abroad as well, as they only have free Skype calls when the phone is on a 3 network (and 3 Like Home will be phased out soon)0
