Probably applying make up or something instead of looking out of the window.

What if there was a couple of chickens waiting to cross the road (they always seem to be doing that but no-one knows why).
You would have ploughed the lot down, it would have been carnage, feathers everywhere.

For the safety of all other road users and pedestrians, please look out the window whilst you are driving.
  • THank you for all your help and support

The tyre isnt £140 as I estimated but apparently £230 _pale_

THe work I am describing is a 'work in progress' and not finished and this is my point, I do not think it should have been left in the state it was (the white lines previously going down the middle of the road were still in their original position thus 'guiding you in a straight line' rather than chicanery nonsense over onto the original opposite carriageway)

And to top it all, re the IaM, yes, I am an advanced driver (albeit only for the last 4 years) and do not require my eyes testing

What kind of tyre is this that costs £230? I buy mine for £40 tops.

    Yes i'm interested too.
If your last tyre cost £130, how come this is £240.
I realise they vary but I got 4 for about £180 last year and mine if quite a big estate car.
  • i've only had the car a year and having not replaced a tyre yet thought £130 would be about right it being a warm version of a standard hatch - however its a funny size 205/50/17 and is a reinforced one and sounds like it has to be ordered in as the 3 local places I've tried don't stock it :((

Wouldn't the white lines go down the middle of the road anyway, even after the completion of the work? Assuming the pavement juts out on both sides the middle of the road is still in the same place.

You're saying that it is a work in progress, but there are no cones, signs or similar? Your original post suggested that this work had been completed. Are there any bollards on the section of the pavement that is now on the road?

I'm still wondering how you didn't see the pavement, and the most likely explanation is still that you simply weren't paying sufficient attention.

  • sorry - to clarify - the white lines go down the middle of the original 2 carriageway road - as if it were straight - the lines one would expect to be in the middle of the road are but 3ft or so from the left hand kerb - the pavement only comes out on one side - and by about 7 ft or so

The whole street is a work in progress (council seems to be under the impression spending 1000s of £s semi pedestrianising a rundown town centre with around 40% vacant shops and removing parking facilities is a good idea) and further along on the next 'jutty out bit' it is covered in orange bollards - but none on the bit I collided with

But hey - theres worse things at sea

I think you need to look at the guidelines and if you think you have a case then you need to get photos of the road (ASAP before if changes) and your car (before it gets fixed) because you will need PROOF.

As others have pointed out, there could be unexpected things on the road at any time - like a horse or a cow and they don't come with bollards and lights, but that doesn't mean that you won't have a claim here.
I think you need to do some more research on the link provided.

You might be somewhat in the wrong, but if the other side is say 50% guilty then you might have a claim, but I think it needs research.

I'm an IAM rider and I think it's great, but it doesn't make people perfect.

A PREMIUM tyre of that size can be had for £100 a corner. Try these for size:

    Toyo Proxes TR-1 (Reinforced) - 205/50/17 - £110
    Continental Sport Contact 2 205/50/17 - £98

Even the most expensive tyre doesn't come anywhere near your £240 quote.

    Michelin Premacy HP (Reinforced) - 205/50/17 - £178.02
