Is a credit card best way to clear kitchen debt we have?!

Hi all,

About a year ago we had a kitchen put in, pay nothing for a year, then i am guessing high rate.

This is soon to be starting payments...

What is the best way to clear or move this around, and can I?

It is just under 5k so wasnt sure if I can transfer it onto a card?

It is with Hitachi finance and so far i just have an agreement number.

Any advice much appreciated.

Cheers!

Do you not have any money saved to put towards the debt?
If you do get a card with a 0% or low interest rate what happens when that expires?
  • Its a bit complicated, when is it not though!

We are hoping to put the house on the market once it picks up a little, so should be able to clear it in 6 months to a year anyway, it was just to buy some breathing space really.

I wasnt sure you can transfer the debt onto a card, as it is not like a normal transfer from another card?

Do you really think housing market will pick up in 6 to 12 months?

i have heard on here that some kitchen financing will not be able to be transferred to a CC. Especially some with B& Q and focus etc, no cards will do the transfer.
Some one will be along with a bit more on that im sure.

Yea I heard that myself, is it because they only have 15 digits or something? Someone told me that you cannot transfer B&Q to a CC i'll try and find post.

I think Next are one of the few that allow BT's and have 16 digits, again can't guarantee but heard summat like that through the appleyards.....

If you were able to get a card from the MBNA stable you could do a transfer to your current account and pay off the finance in cash.

  • Thanks for the replies, the kitchen was with Premier, and the finance was with Hitachi, the letter just has an agreement number which is 9 digits?

So could i potentially get a credit with a long 0% on purchases and clear it with that?

Sorry i didnt understand the MNA transfer to current account bit? you mean like an advance on money into my bank?

    Hi

Virgin (issued by MBNA) have a 16 month 0% period on balance transfers and money transfers. There is a 4% fee for money transfers, but I'm sure that'll be far cheaper than the interest the finance company will sting you for!

If you can get accepted for the Virgin card with a big enough credit limit I definitely think this is your best route.

    Regards
