After 10 years of purchasing various vacs because of their supposed excellent suction and high wattage can say a lot of them are a waste of money, in the past 3 years alone i have got through 4!

I went out and bought a Henry in one of Hombase's discount weekends and can confirm it is the best vac i have ever had. Speaking to an aunty the other day she said she has had hers approx 15years and never had a problem with it.

    i'd agree on the henry...

its the only big brand i've ever seen used by professionals. its simple and it works - unlike a lot of other big brands prone to gimmicks (stay away from dyson!)

I am looking at this thread with interest. I have previously had a Dyson which I can say was excellent. Had it 6 years and it died though. Got a Hoover cylinder vacuum which is terrible. I am more interested in an upright vacuum if possible though. Are there any good uprights out there at discount prices ??

well i've had my kirby for 25 years and its still going! costs anything between 1000 and 2,500 smackers tho so wouldn't be able to afford to replace it with another one when it does go.

I recently bought a Samsung upright from Argos for approx £48 in the sale. I have had 2 Dysons previously, but have to say this is as good as, if not better than the Dyson. It cleans up muddy footprints excellently.

    I bought this one:

Heres is a much better offer 1/2 price in the sale £59.99 (instead of £119.99!), and a much higher spec (I wish this had been on offer at the time, as I would have bought instead!) :

I've got a Dyson DC14 Animal for the day-to-day stuff, and for DIY (esp. brick dust and so on) we have a Numatic George which also does wet cleaning. Very happy with them both.

We have a Dyson upright animal downstairs and Hetty hoover upstairs. We have had 4 dyson none have lasted more than 5-6 years. I hoover downstairs at least daily. Hetty is very nice pink and lives in DD wardrobe!! As we have a dog, long haired child and a Hubby who is very hairy Hetty has a Henry turbo brush which copes wey well with the hair everywhere. Not to sure whether I would buy another dyson there are always loads at the recycling tip!

It depends on some things really. some vacuums perform better on hard floors than carpets, and vice versa. Do you have pets/children or anyone with allergies.
I have just bought a Miele and it's great as I have 2 cats and we both have allergies.
the Which website is good to look at reviews, I think I paid £1.99 for 1 months subscription and then could cancel the DD.

Another vote for a Henry here. I love it. Know people who have had Dysons and they've been gimmicky and unreliable.
