2nd Sky Box subscription

Hi
We currently have Sky+ and Multiroom (2nd box). The 2nd box is in the bedroom and the Sky+ is our main viewing box.
We also have a lead connecting the 2nd box in the bedroom to the TV in the conservatry (which ajoins the bedroom - odd bungalow layout!)
We often watch the 2nd box when eating our dinner and its usualy the evening news or something like the ITV1 'soaps' (corrie, emmerdale, the bill
).
The reason we got the 2nd box was to use every so often when there was a programme marathon on a certain channel. Thus saving my poor hubby of the boredom of sitting having to watch / endure 5 hours every night for 7 nights!
I have noticed we rarely use the TV in the bedroom and the one in the conservatry is on 'terestrial' usualy unless its as I said a marathon week.
My question is simple, can we sign up for multiroom a month at a time when we know we need it for the marathons (like sky sports or other channels) or does it have to be permanent subscription? Maybe its possible to have our 2nd box as a FreeSat box at other times?
Great if its as and when not so good if its the latter as I was hoping to save £10 a month and try and find an extra long lead to connect the Sky+ box to the other 2 TV's! Unless theres an easier / less expensive way?
Sorry to go in depth but I feel its the only way I can show what I meant.
Thanks
