307 - Depollution Filter /System

Hi All,

First off - yes I know that some of you have opinions on French cars and reliability - fair enough. Just looking for some objective advice on this one please.

Have a nearly 3 year old 307 2.0 petrol (24k on the clock) - had for 8 months now, very happy and no problems. But the warranty is nearly up (in a week's time) and last week going down the M1 and it went into limp home mode with faulty depollution sensor - just put in £20 from Sainso! A 24h rest fixed the problem. Got it into Peugeot on Tuesday for them to diagnose the fault but needed to take car back while they get parts in.

But they admit it's not really a problem they've come across before. A bit of googling shows various issues from fuel filters/pumps/pressure sensors to quality of fuel (i.e. don't use supermarket stuff).

Just wondering if anyone's come across this before so I have some background info? Also so I can maybe point Peugeot in the right direction when it goes back in on Tues. (Naturally I won't mention the supermarket fuel quality as potential gremlin - BP all the way from now on).

Cheers

Sadly, it's a somon fault on most stuff these days that have the PAF !!!!!! thing.

The problem is down to use and the way you fuel up...

Every time you fuel up, an additive (elloy) is added to the fuel. So if you fuel up say ten quid every time, then you will use lots of the additive.

Also with the car being low miles it has never really had a decent run/thrash. Which is what people should be told to do if their cxar has a FAP system.

When we get cars in with FAP problems we take the FAP off (it's part of the exhaust) and steam clean it for ten minutes to remove all the rubbish in there.

As yours is under warranty I'd be asking Pug to sort it out FOC.

Don't lie too much about how you fuel/drive as they can tell this when they plug the car into the computer.

As for them "not coming across this problem before" I'd use another Pug garage as that one is clearly lying!

    google "Peugeot Elloy fluid"

    or "peugeot FAP"

Hah - I'd love to give the car a decent thrash but the missus & wee one don't approve of high speed (where permitted naturally) and fast cornering.

How would I find out if it's got a FAP system?

I try not to fill it up everytime (£10-£20 typically) as part of MSE lifestyle - more weight = more fuel used ratio etc.

    Cheers

You dont need high speed or corners you need high RPM so use a lower gear that should give it a blast out or do a few miles on the motorway in 3rd / 4th instead of 5th ;-)
If it doesnt pay rent sell it.

Your problem lies within the way you fuel then. Put 20/30 quid in each time or just fill the thing up. As for the comment about blasting down the motorway in 4th - too right! Works wonders!

Most cars these days have the FAP system, it's just the Pug one is apocalyptically naff!

Are you saying that the additive only comes out at the start of fueling?

Can I put £10 BP Ultimate diesel in to get the additive then go and fill it up completely with a cheaper fuel?

The additive gets squirted into the tank everytime you fuel up. Which is why you should avoid fueling up with ten quid here, ten quid there. If the FAP runs low on the elloy fluid, the FAP won't be doing it's job properly and you end up with warning messages and the car stuck in limp mode.

both the petol and diesel ones have it. however it's the diesels that suffer more to be honest cos they don't get drivel well.
