If you want to get a hire car I can recommend http://www.auto-europe.co.uk/. I've booked through them with no problems. The car was with Europecar and was under half the price of going direct to them! Much cheaper than Hertz through Ryanair as well (which has gone up massively from what I've seen).

Transport: use Google to find the Weeze NRN website, and it gives links to the bus companies that serve the airport. On most routes, there is one bus an hour and the fares are rather high.

You might be better off taking another airline to a more convenient airport. BA and Lufthansa fly into the real Dusseldorf airport, which is linked by a high-speed rail line to the city centre. Easyjet serve Dortmund, which is not far and again is served by high-speed train. There are useful flights also on the no-frills (but not always cheap) carriers Air Berlin and German Wings.

Oh dear, looks like I may have to cancel :o I did not realize that! Oh well, I will only loose the £20 on the room! Here I was getting all excited to tell hubby.....
Do you think it is possible to take the train from the airport?

Seriously, don't worry about this! 70km is nothing, and it's quite a pleasant ride into Dusseldorf. I always take the bus from the airport to Weeze station (10 mins) and from there trains run to Dusseldorf every 30 mins (weekdays) or hourly (weekends). Plenty of seats on board and it's only an hour and a bit down to Dusseldorf. You can even buy a through ticket from the bus driver at the airport, and day tickets are available allowing up to five people to travel for a fixed price all across the region.

Enjoy - travelling by train in Germany is a pleasure.

Thank you, I feel a lot better, I thought I had made a mistake and really wanted to book a MSE break for me and hubby, we have had a tough tough year and this is just what we need. My parents are German and I speak fluent German (born in South Africa and moved to UK 9 years ago) so that should help! Is the train very expensive?

    Not a chance.

Ryanair are incredibly strict about this - if he doesn't have an in-date passport, he won't be travelling.
    From Poland...with love.

Don't want to make things worse, but remember if you cancel the hotel, there is a £15 pp cancelation charge.

You can visit the passport office in person and get the passport ithe same day,if thats appropriate.
