Hi all,

I am out of contract with Orange with my PAC code and have been looking at loads of mobile sites for either a Nokia 5800 or one of the HTCs. All the websites I've looked at say that you can't port your number to Vodafone but somehow these guys can: http://www.mobilephonesdirect.co.uk/

Does anyone know why they can but companies like Dialaphone or Mobiles.co.uk can't?

Thanks for your help!

If you look at their FAQs page, doesnt really say if they can port to vodafone or which networks they can or cant port to - have you verfied by asking them first?

I cant see why they could be unique when all the major retailers seem to say no to porting to vodafone.

Thats what I'm thinking, but if you look at one of their vodafone deals there is an option to port your number to them:
    http://www.mobilephonesdirect.co.uk/Brands/Nokia/Xpress-Music-Phones/sb491/n443/p2987.aspx
(at the bottom of the best deals box) which leads to this screen:
    http://www.mobilephonesdirect.co.uk/popups/assistance.aspx#porting

Will have to verify with them i think. Has anyone used them before?

Seems to be saying if you are out of contract or on pay and go initially, then you can port - but then doesnt mention if you can port to vodafone specifically. Hope someone else knows but I would check first with them direct.

It's up to the individual dealer whether they choose to process ports to Vodafone.

As the PAC must be presented at point of connection there is some effort required by the dealer and so many choose not to facilitate these or instead charge a small admin fee.

MPD's 'Keeping Your Number' page indicates all networks are supported although I would double check as suggested.

well this is the reply i got:
    Dear sir,
Yes you can port your number. Please obtain your PAC code from your current provider. Our website does say that you can keep your number. You will need to enter the PAc when prompted on the website.
    kind regards

So looks like i can port as i have to enter my details when ordering. though after reading the vodafone complaints section, i'm not too sure i want to.....
