My avatar keeps reverting to one I used earlier, it does it all on it's own.

It could be related to the problems the site had yesterday. I don't think they reverted the database (thus undid everything between) back to 4.45pm yesterday, but there were problems with PMs so they may have reverted back. In that case if you cahnged your avatar after 4.45pm yesterday then it may have been reverted.
