it is vegetable fat i can remember mum buying it when i was younger and became a veggie, before that she always had lard in the fridge.
Its still not 'healthy' though despite being vegetable oil
Ive saved the fat off some sausages, should i sell it on ebay?Member no.1 of the 'I'm not in a clique' group :rotfl:

LOL ;D One of my uncles 'claimed' he nailed the sausage skin to the back door to rub his bread down when he was so skint he couldn't afford butter. Have you noticed the more well off a person becomes the more humble their beginnings become when telling stories of the 'Good Ol Days' ::)Life's a beach! oh yes, my grandad slept in a sack and had to darn his socks for years, and only got an orange to share with his brother for xmas. ;D0

I have made a boo-boo i realised i poured the pork fat into a cup with beef fat in it already. A cross between lard and dripping. Stuffed its resale value i suppose.
I am interested in this cookeen stuff because i need to make some pies and i am a bit fearful of making pastry, will it be crud if i use margarine, would i be better getting some cookeen, or even using my hidden supply of fat from the fridge... would it make the mince pies taste sort of beefy/sausagey?Member no.1 of the 'I'm not in a clique' group :rotfl:

Marg is better than nothing. I use it (more often butter) if I want a heavier pastry for meat pies etc. Lard is king though the pastry justs melts.Life's a beach! Take your shoes off and feel the sand between your toes.0

Quakers: Cookeen is made of refined vegetable fats, should be OK for veggies HTH
Thanks MATH. Not sure I could get that pastry tasting as scrummy as my Nans though ;D
I'm convinced my Nan didn't know it was veggie 'cos when I became a veggie at 15 I can remember her buying veggie fat to make pastry just for me ;D ;D
ooooooopppps!! Just wait 'til I get up to those pearly gates and tell her - we'll have a right good giggleSometimes it's important to work for that pot of gold...But other times it's essential to take time off and to make sure that your most important decision in the day simply consists of choosing which color to slide down on the rainbow...0 -
