Cookeen Should I use it?
MATH

Tesco order came today and they have replaced the lard I had ordered (for a mass Mince Pie making frenzy tomorrow) with Cookeen. My Mother says it is disgusting and I shouldn't bother using it. Has anyone tried it before and is it as good for shortcrust pastry as lard is?

I have used it for shortcrust pastry before, and have had no bother with it - hell - you have it now, might as well use it! ;D0

Umm, Cookeen is disgusting ... but lard isn't? ??? ???0

I always thought Cookeen was exactly the same as lard and my daughter has used it with no problems for cookery at school so I would just use it.

The only person that makes pastry better than mine is my Mother
- sounds like Cookeen will be a bit dissapointing then. Will have a test run with the first doz but may have to nip down the co-op and blag some Lard. If this shortfall continues they'll have to set up a black market ;D Life's a beach! Take your shoes off and feel the sand between your toes.0 -
Not sure where you are in the Midlands Math, but the new Tescos in Long Eaton (Derbys) had loads of lard last Sunday. When life hands you a lemon, make sure you ask for tequilla and salt

Made a trial batch of mince pies and it is ok. Not quite as good as Lard but much better than all butter. Expensive though which is another reason I shall go back to Lard once in the shops. Where has it all gone anyway? :-/Life's a beach! Take your shoes off and feel the sand between your toes.0
