Hi Is it possible to replace a multi locking point lock on a upvc door with a five lever mortice approved lock?
Any idea of the cost to have one fitted?
Thanks.

Erm yes and no there is a system made by ERA that is a multipoint lock controled by a 5 lever lock. but you cannot replace it them with a standard mortice lock, as it would lose its BS3621 rating.
My only question is why? it would be more secure by fitting a good quality cylinder.0 -

Thanks, Insurance are insisting on fitting a 5 lever mortice lock.0 -
Thats ok it wont apply to uPVC doors just wooden external doors.

I've had the same.
Five lever mortice lock applies to wooden doors.
If you tell them the type of lock on your upvc door, they should be ok.
Should be on the lock, maybe a name, and a BS no, and tell them if it's a multi point lock or not.0 -

Thanks but already looked on the lock but no BS number or any writing on there at all.0 -
Its the lock barrel that the insurance will be bothered about. Look for EN1303 or one with a kite mark, and if you do change your lock make sure that none of it sticks out past the handle. Insurance companys reialise that changing locking strips on uPVC is not feasable.0

Thank you. Is there a way to change the locking strip at the same time as the lock? I think the bolts are slightly bent and it's hard to open sometimes. I am OK with it but my elderly mum struggles when she visits and I am not around.0

It sounds more like the keeps need ajusting or the door leveling rather than in need of replacment. check all the bolts and frame for signs of wear you should be able to see where its catching, then just move the keeps accordingly and give it a good lube up.0

Thanks, when you have the door open and flick the handle up to fire the top and bottom bolts across and then push the handle down to retract the bolts the bolts are staying out of the door by around 1 cms. I have tried WD 40 but to no avail?
New locking mechanisiam required?
Would you recommend any type of lock?
Where are you based please?0 -
If its doing it out of the door to I would guess that unfortunatly the mechinisam has gone.
as for replacment you can usually get a direct replacment if one is available.
is there a makers name on there?
we are based in East Yorkshire.
Thanks
