My teenage son has just bought a refurb Acer laptop from Dixons and it looks brand new.

There was a problem with it failing to boot up every time but after a quick google we found that a BIOS update should solve it.

I telephoned the helpline on bank holiday Monday and a very helpful man talked me through the download and updating of the BIOS.

Fingers crossed, it is all working well now.

He got a very good spec laptop for much less than the new price.

No reason not to buy a refurb as long as it has the same warranty as a new one. It may have very minor cosmetic defects but everything else should be as good, if not better than new.
But I wouldn't be looking to buy from Currys in the first place.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

Refurbished means they've previously been returned for a reason - most likely faulty and repaired.

We bought three last year and two of them died within a fortnight.
