Selling and posting to USA

Iv recently sold an item on ebay and the buyer was american.
But oh i wish he hadnt been.
Getting a customs label and having to put my address on the front of the small parcel as well as theres meant they wouldnt fit so had to put it all in a bigger box.
Then there was the argument at the village post office, The buyer said to save costs would i post it small packages overland instead of small air parcels. No problem i said but the dear old lady at my local P O didnt appear to understand and kept giving me the Air price. After about ten miniutes of trying to convince her and a que forming behind me i began to loose the will to live, gave in and paid up. Thus leaving me out of pocket
Which brings me to my point.
On my ebay ad i selected Royal Mail 1st class delivery to the UK. Could i have declined to send the item to the USA.
Thanks

No, you couldn't have declined to send. But you could have stopped him bidding in the first place.

If there isn't room CN22 can go on any side of a packet/parcel.
You're US buyer was referring to surface mail. This can take months and isn't much more cheaper.

Just a tip, never be persuaded to save money by shipping surface, it rarely arrives in time and the buyer forgets it was him that asked you to do it and opens a protective paypal claim anyway.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. That's the whole problem, buyer can open a dispute on day 44 if item hasn't arrived, if you can't track it to delivery then you lose the claim. There are few buyers who are not aware of the 45 day time limit for paypal claims and despite anything they might say they will put in a claim to protect themselves 'just in case'.
So your item takes 2 months to arrive and on day 44 you get a chargeback opened..what do you do then? Paypal don't care that buyer wanted surface mail.
Postage is for your convenience and for your safety, like fay says, it is not for buyers to dictate how to send something if that leaves you on dodgy grounds to protect yourself.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.
