So I guess that I'm going to be stung for "payments" this year, and I'll have to pay it all back???

Maybe not. If you get alot less than you'd normally get, you can tell them that you can't get by on the payments they are going to give you and they may take less off a week/month...it'll take longer to pay back anything you may owe them but hopefully it'll not sting you too badly

If your current year income is £24000, maybe you are being awarded WTC based on a previous year income that is low enough?

£24k is last yeasr income, this years will be slightly higher, which i did tell them on the phone
