was going to buy the Panasonic TXP42G10 for daughter with my credit card ( she only has a debit card) but the company hi fi confidential will only deliver to the cardholder's address which is no good as my daughter doesn't live near me.my question is this.will using the debit card be ok? i personally wouldn't use one for summat that expensive but haven't a choice.there's no way they'll budge with the address as they say it's down to the courier.they're the cheapest company selling it-free 5 year warranty and delivery included in the price

Not sure what you mean by OK.
If the retailer is happy to accept it and you have the money in the bank then everything should be ok. I use a debit card all the time and never had a problem.0 -
would it be viable to get delivered to your address, then get a taxi / man with a van to deliver to daughter?
or change your card a/c address to hers..
or even add her as a 2nd card holder, though main card holder's address may the one they check..Long time away from MSE, been dealing real life stuff..
Sometimes seen lurking on the compers forum :-)0 -
Do you have to buy from that company? They seem fairly expensive. Personally I'd look elsewhere and try and find somewhere that will accept a credit card.Stompa0

sorry i couldn't post sooner
the reason why i ask is it ok to use a debit card is cos i've heard so many people say you're better with using a credit card
not viable to get a taxi/man with a van cos it would cost a fortune
change your card a/c address to hers??? how is that possible? if you mean in the account on the website i'm ordering from i assumed it had to be the same address as the one where the card is registered
They seem fairly expensive. that company is the cheapest i've found especially since it does free delivery and has a 5 year warranty with it0 -

(though I've no idea how reputable the company is).Stompa0 -
thanks for that.after ringing them up only to find that they aren't there after 5.15 ( to check about credit cards) and reading loadsa reviews/speaking to daughter i ordered the tv from hifi confidential for her using the debit card.the reviews from this year for crampton and moore are terrible.btw.i don't know what the difference is but that link was for a TXP42G10B not TXP42G10.anyway sorted now-at long last0

The only difference is that if you use a debit card and then have a dispute over the item, or if it never arrives, you can't initiate a chargeback through the credit card company as you can with a credit card.No free lunch, and no free laptop0

thanks for that
i have another question.if one purchases an item with an extended warranty what happens if that company goes bust? slightly off topic i know but i thought i'd ask0 -
The extended warranties are usually provided by a 3rd party supplier, so if the retailer goes bust (if this is what you are suggesting?) then your warranty is still valid.
Be aware that extended warranties purchased at the time of sale through the retailer are usually grossly overpriced (DSG are the most notorious offenders). If you want this protection (IMHO it's not worth it on most electrical equipment) then it's better to buy an aftermarket warranty once your standard 12 month one has expired. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
thanks for the info.
yea i'm aware that they're expensive but the extended warranty was free with the tv i bought and the tv wasn't overpriced0
