What do you think of B&Q Kitchens and bathrooms?

Saw some Ikea kitchens earlier this week and my husband popped into B&Q and was quite impressed with their range of Kitchens & Bathrooms. He bought the brochures home and I too was impressed with what was illustrated. Just wonder if anyone had any experience with B&Q and their kitchens and bathrooms?

  • on the look out for a new kitchen too........B&Q do have good range dont they! + think thats where I will be getting ours. We have previously had one from MFI buts wont be going there again as ours + mothers kitchen and bathroom all had delays missing parts etc .....it took ages to get things right. At least with B&Q you can go into the shop and get things off the shelf too!

We have also ordered our new kitchen from B&Q having had one in our previous house for 10 years. The only bit of wear it showed was where the edge at the end of the laminate worktop had chipped off. Apart from that it was fine, although obviously a bit dated after 10 years! The only thing to be aware of is that they recently had a fire in their warehouse so orders are taking a lot longer, it was 10 weeks even for supply only when we did ours which was about a month ago.
  • its now 7weeks, i work in B&Q and would maybe leave it for about a mth untill things die dwn cuz so that ur focused on rather than people who ordered their kitchens before the fire and r still waiting........ even try and choose the kitchen in-store- but make sure u have exactly everything u need before u start( the amount of ppl who rip kitchens out b4 they have there new kitchen, madness) althou consultants dnt get commission...... ;)

bathrooms where unaffected by the fire.... some avaiable instore up £400 nething else special order....

hope that helps ya a bit...

  • B & Q kitchens are very good quality and i'm very happy with mine, fitted 2 years ago. I would recommend you avoid there delivery service though and buy instore as that leaves alot to be desired, they failed to turn up on 3 delivery attempts and then we had 4 doors missing which despite the fact the driver marked that they were missing on delivery note still took 6 mths to get our money back (we bought the missing doors again from a local store as by this time delivery had taken 4mths, and it was 2 days till christmas.

But for the actual kitchen quality, i can't fault it.

like the other person said avoid at all costs del service we ended up having broken stuff delivered twice and dumped in the front garden things were missing and in the end i was known by sight to the staff and we ended up with a large refund for all the aggro but i have to say that the kitchen is great now it is fitted and i think most large diy stores are all the same

Well, I've had two. The first one turned up with 2 lengths of what should have been standard worktop, but one of them was breakfast bar width.

The 2nd was more entertaining. £1200, and firstly the sink didn't turn up when it should have done, it turned up on my (coincidenal) day off, and it had the wrong taps, and also a pack of the standard taps that came with the sink, and the sink had the auto-pop plug which I didn't ask for.

The tall fitted oven sides were missing. One base unit was cream not white, and all the doorhandles were missing the day the whole kitchen came, at 4pm. The tall oven sides were, it turned out, left in a warehouse, and I'd volunteered to go and fetch them but they told me they weren't there. Oh, and the door handles took two months to arrive. And a piece of the bullnose edging was badly damaged inside perfect packaging!

Never ever again. Oh, and delivery - I live 1.3 miles from that store, thus supposedly qualifying for free delivery, but they measure the delivery radius from the centre of the town, 5 miles away, so we didn't.

All in all, a troublesome relationship.

However, that was in 1998 and the kitchen itself is still going strong. I had 16mm cabinets, mind, would not recommend anything less substantial.

We bought our kitchen from Howdens (part of the MFI group).
We are pleased with it, a good quality kitchen and not too expensive.
Howdens were recommeded by a respected carpenter, which, in my opinion is a good way to get advice.
