Firefox cookies not being saved

I've recently noticed a problem with my Firefox installation (3.0.10) in that cookies are no longer saved so I have to log into forums like this every time I visit.

All the tick boxes are still ticked under privacy options. Does anyone know what the problem might be?

The problem is with my home machine - I am at work now but when I looked this morning there were no cookies there to clear.

Is it ticked to accept both cookies and 3rd party cookies?

Think id try the obvious uninstall and reinstall. And if that doesnt work then id say you have a program conflict (Dont suppose you use AVG do you?)

Thanks, I'll try that this evening. I use Avast! rather than AVG.

I have just uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox but it still hasn't solved the problem. Does anyone have any other suggestions please?

Oh well, back to Internet Explorer if this latest version of Firefox can't do the basics.

I have been trying to use Firefox to clear all my history and cookies etc except for certain cookies that I want to keep and had given up but your thread made me do some searching and I think that I have now sussed it.

Basically I just wanted to keep my current location on the bbc.co.uk website and can now do this by doing the following:

Go to Tools> Options> Privacy tab
I have Accept cookies and Accept third-party cookies checked
Ensure that you have Keep until: I close Firefox
    Click on Exceptions
Type in the address of the website which you want to allow cookies for (there may be more than one address for any particular site - check in the Show cookies to see what you may need to save) and select Allow
Then in Private Data> Settings ensure that cookies is unchecked
I usually have Always clear my private data when I close Firefox checked - uncheck this for now
Check the box next to Ask me before clearing private data
(If I didn't do the 2 steps above the change didn't seem to work for me)
    Click on OK
Close Firefox and restart Firefox and you should have the cookies specified saved but all others removed.

I then went back in and checked the box for Always clear my private data when I close Firefox and unchecked Ask me before clearing private data but I'm not sure if you need to do this.

If you aren't saving the cookies you want I'd suggest going to only the sites you want to store cookies for then looking at the Show cookies option. Allow the website details shown there for the sites you require.

    Hope that helps.

Ah but it can because it works just fine for me and millions of others. If it isn't working for you then the obvious conclusion is that you have somehow screwed it up - most likely by altering a setting.

Tools/Options/Privacy is where cookie settings are done but of course with FireFox there are umpteen addon possibilities too.
