I am in a similar situation where the bailiff has put a charge of £300 ontop within 12 hours of a letter stating only £90 o/s, is there someone there still who can help me0

Well yes if you start your own thread. You are detracting from someone else's problem.
You also seem to be making the same mistake as the OP by giving an extremely limited explanation of events.
there is clearly something wrong because there is no correllation between the amount of £90 and sudden bailiff action.

Oh well. latest in a string to bury their head in the sand, lose the car (£600 sold for £200) and probably the hi fi and TV to go with it.
Why ask for advice in the first place or was it just a case of not bothering to update?0 -

Do you have to be so confrontational and aggresive in your posts?
People use this site for advice, usually because they don't have a great understanding of the issues at hand, therefore it's perfectly understandable that they may not present the facts clearly without assistance.
Berating them because they don't immediately post all information in the format you like doesn't really help the situation.0 -

In answer to your first question, in short, yes. It is intended to help and IME is proven to do so. I can be equally sympathetic and reassuring where appropriate. In this case, both of those who stand to lose out have turned out to be pointless posters.
There are timescales involved in the actions suggested so yes it is important that they confirm their action or ask for further clarification quickly.
Many people seek advice, follow the advice and succeed, (want examples?). If they post like this then their failure to acknowledge/respond/act is, quite frankly, both stupid and very rude.
There have been a string of threads on here where people have bailiffs at their throats. Unless they act appropriately then the outcome is obvious; huge, often unnecessary and usually increased loss.

I'd agree. Many people are willing to give extensive, personal help on this board. Posters whose first ever post comprises of "Help, I've got a bailiff's letter!" to be followed up by "I seem unable to understand anything you lot are telling me.." before disappearing into the ether is enough to try anyone's patience.
Granted not everyone is well mannered, intelligent or versed in 'netiquette', but it does appear that if these people don't get an instant solution (or even have the patience to undertake a more long term solution) then they're never seen again.
I think Neil B can be forgiven his irritation at this.0 -
I'm not particularly irritated. My post was aimed generally at anyone thinking of posting with a similar situation. I'd much rather they listened, acknowledged, queried, acted and ultimatley saved themselves a lot of money.
I think you hit the nail on the head when you mentioned the 'quick fix'. It certainly does seem and is unfair that some legwork is involved as the result of bailiffs often acting on Council incompetence. It isn't what people want to hear and they baulk at the thought - but it is reality!
If they don't want the work then use a good service. I know this is a free forum and I never do this for any paid service - except - 'herbie21' is the best in the business IMO.
I remember the first time I looked at another forum. It was, incidentally a bailiff case i first looked at. the first few replies were along the lines of 'Oooooh, I should complain about that if I were you. You certainly have my sympathy'.
Now did that help at all? I think not.
As for 'Downhiller' referring to me demanding a 'format' that I prefer, phrrrrwww. Basic facts like what you actually have in front of you are hardly a great demand are they? - and essential information!

I appreciate your efforts, and your willingness to share your expertise on this forum, FOC. I can relate to your irritation. Why bother helping those who are too idle to reciprocate the effort? My post was aimed generally at anyone thinking of posting with a similar situation. I'd much rather they listened, acknowledged, queried, acted and ultimately saved themselves a lot of money.
The slaphappy attitude is pretty much symptomatic of life for many in Britain of today.. we live in a lazy, care-free, trash culture in which determination was abandoned long ago...0 -
Just going back to my post #17 which upset Downhiller. it was short and sharp - but accurate.
noting the comments of Volcano and Asbo too, yes netiquette and general malaise comes into it.
i actually think there is a possibility that many of these people are just doing the 'ostrich' through pure fear and panic. Having bailiffs on your case is not at all pleasant.
I just feel quite upset that I know the outcome if people continue not to act as seemed the case here. i don't wish that on anyone. Hence I believe downhiller put his/her own interpretation on my post.
A lawyer friend from another forum once commented that people do not generally behave in this way face to face. You don't pay a solicitor for advice and just blank them mid conversation! For some reason people feel able to do so on this forum where people give their time and opinion for free?
hopefully, maybe, the two posters here have found appropriate help elswhere and resolved the bailiff issues.0
