Property prices fall to 2004 levels

The house opposite me sold in April this year for the same price it last went for in mid 2006.
In July my house was valued by a surveyor acting for First Direct. The valuation was 5% off the price we paid for it in Sept 2007, which although not a sale price, backs up the 2006 level argument (as far as my immediate area goes anyway)
At this rate my gaff will be worth the same as/slightly more than I paid for it by Xmas! (would be nice..)
I can believe this. It will vary around the country, and will depend on the type of property.0 -

Yep - London/SE seems to be fairing better than the Midlands/North I think.
It appears there is still money to spend this end of the country and the Population density is a factor too. In addition the city is starting to revive again or so I hear from my freinds /family who work there which will also help.
(Heres hoping!)
PGo round the green binbags. Turn right at the mouldy George Elliot, forward, forward, and turn left....at the dead badger0 -

Downey, watch where you are standing'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is. A single market without barriers visible or invisible giving you direct and unhindered access to the purchasing power of over 300 million of the worlds wealthiest and most prosperous people' Margaret Thatcher0 -
Agree Dan - Which is why I'm hanging onto my flat in London for a few years whilst the prices (hopefully) get back to 2007 levels
Still kick myself we didn't flog it in Summer 07 though. We would have made a 40-50% profit in 3 years!
Live and learn. (occasionally)

Interesting how it varies round the country. Here (Home Counties) selling prices are clearly back to 2004 levels, which is nice.
There was so little selling for a while that it was impossible to compare prices - literally nothing I would have considered buying was selling, it was all just ever so slowly chasing the market down.
Then some stuff finally sold this spring/summer and the most recent sold prices (released this month) showed prices on every comparable property clearly back to 2004.
Nothing priced higher is selling.0 -

"House prices aren't falling in my area" has become "House prices aren't rising in my area". Denial? Make sure you don't miss the boat hun....(that's if your the boat hasn't sailed already )You have been sooooo kind to posters on MSE I wouldn't want to see you miss outIf you keep doing what you've always done - you will keep getting what you've always got.0 -

I have no plans to buy at present, hun (do I know you? - I don't believe we've met, but your matey greeting suggests I must be wrong on this ) as we will be moving to a different area, but have no idea where at present - and don't plan to stick a pin in a map just to satisfy your house-buying urges...
I think the ship you're referring to is the Titanic. It sailed without me, mercifully - we neary bought at peak in 2007, but mercifully, are still here to tell the tale....0
