Whay-hay I can see Stamp shops on Gap again and just got 3 for this week! That takes me WAY above my target for June and makes this month my best since I started MS-ing 2 years ago!

Why do Gap insist on listing some locations just by their street name? Do they think we are all psychic, or am I missing something???

I've just checked and there are no jobs in my area so just as a little experiment I decided to click on all the street names, the ones listed as (for example) 22 High Street (no town mentioned) or 35 Shopping Centre (again no town mentioned). I had always assumed these places must be London as that's the only place arrogant enough to think they don't need to list the town (sorry, born and bred northerner speaking here), but it turns out they are spread all over the country - one is even up north though a little too far away to be worth my while.

I just wonder why they do this, I mean, why not just list the bloomin' town so we can see straight away if it's local or not???

They're probably being provided a spreadsheet of data from the client and rather than clean it up first like TNS and Aba-i, they just upload it.

The best way is to prepare yourself by creating a specfic bookmark to all the normal and odd places for your area that popup so you could have Manchester and Bolton as normal places but also add in locations within Manchester that are called something else like say a burger joint in Deansgate area of Manchester.

This way, you can always be super quick in selecting jobs. If you get an odd err msg about the page having moved, you just have to log back into Gapbuster and click the bookmark again.

OOh I've certainly started something here, haven't I??? :rotfl:

Firstly, I wasn't having a go at individuals who happen to come from London... (I mentioned the place not the people) but believe me (for example) when I watch the telly you would think the whole world revolved around London. I mean, a couple of inches of snow in London and none at all across the rest of the country, but the news and all the presenters can talk of nothing else, and you wouldn't believe how quick the BBC moves over the north east on that weather map. ;)

(Actually that's probably me being ultra sensitive since I am desperate for snow and we only got one measly day here, so turning on the telly every day and seeing them going on about snow felt like a personal insult).

Anyway, forgive me if I've offended anyone, I'm recovering from a migraine and feeling rough. (That's my excuse, and I'm sticking to it ;)) It wasn't really intended as a slight. But look at it from my point of view, if we in Teesside talked about the Kings Road, no-one would have a clue what we were on about, but if a Londoner talks about the Kings Road then we are all expected to know that it's London - which is kind of why I said that I assumed these places that Gap list as road names only must (of necessity) be in London.

And thanks to whoever suggested saving the search but I actually tried that a few months ago and it didn't work so I gave up and went back to the old fashioned way. It's not a major problem as I do very little work for Gap... I was just surprised and a little irritated that they can't be bothered to list the town. I mean fancy listing a location as 'shopping centre' (that one turned out to be Hartlepool, by the way). It wouldn't even be so bad if you could just tick them all to be on the safe side and ensure you capture all the possibilities, but they limit you to 10 selections (and since they have 3 or 4 different ways of spelling one town that 10 selections fills up pretty quickly).

But even when they quote a town its not necessarily right. We had wondered why a particuluar grocery shop in the village where I work never appeared on their list. A couple of weeks ago my OH had a call from dear old Gapbuster asking him to go to Droitwich Spa. We live on the edge of Snowdonia. The confused Australian told him it must be close to us as the first 2 letters of the postcode where the same, and then read out the whole address. No idea how Droitwich Spa got into the address, and no wonder the job hadn't been done. No one living in Droitwich Spa would accept a job in Penrhyndeudraeth with a LL postcode!!!!!
