Well, first of all run the spell checker - it's Courier.
Next up, parcel delivery looks like a very competetive market to me - loads of online places will deliver 25KG parcels anywhere in the UK for £9-£10.
Obtaining clients - make a web site, advertise in the paper, get listed in Yellow Pages, try and get some free stories in the local paper, do a leaflet drop round industrial estates etc.Happy chappy0 -
Thank you tomstickland,
Sorry for mis-spelling. If you know could you please send me the web addresses of those online companies? I know it is a competitive market, But I didn't know the full extend.
Thank you0 -

Hi nava23
you will have to do an amazing about of research, structure, and investigation to make a success of this.. a new company starting out in this area needs to be fully aware of what they are undertaking...
are you looking to become a national courier?
up to how big a parcel can you accomodate?
can you get the jobs needed to make it viable...
am not saying that there isn't any room in this market for another company, but you are competing with the DHL's, UPS, ParcelForce and many many more..
Good luck with it£4988 Lloyds TSB Mastercard
£400 O/D Lloyds TSB
£2650 Lloyds TSB Loan
£5070 Black Horse Finance
Skint, but I have a plan.... an MSE Plan!!!0 -

to be honest the best place to start would be either bulky or odd freight, or same day, as you will not be able to compete on the smaller parcels unless you try to use one of the larger compaines
big companies will pay very little to the courier company, qvc pay less that 2.00 per box.
it may be worth looking at the franchiese option. but the only way to make money on a small scale is to fill a niche.
I have worked for two of the largest courier companies in the world and a smaller one. You need to look closely at the type of area you are in and what you can collect deliever.

parcel2go only operate as a middle man, this may be the way to go, but all the major players are warey ( ? ) 3 party shippers and you would need to be able to prove some sort of level of shipping to get a decent discount. p2g used to pay less than £?.00 for a collection upto 25kgs, they were one of the first to work the way they do, but you'll see the likes of UPS in the States and Business Post home delievery serivce are on the band waggon now.The futures bright the future is Ginger0 -
The links were posted just to show what sort of price the middle men are charging, to give some idea of how cheap it is to shift relatively large parcels.Happy chappy0

I’m sure there must be some courier franchises you could buy into? this may be an option?0

You will need to do a LOT more research whichever route you go down - please don't rush into anything.
Consider what you will need to start up - what sort of vehicle do you have/are you thinking of getting - this will affect your ability to deliver larger items.
Try the following links for a start
https://www.businesslink.gov.uk
https://www.courierexchange.co.uk
It may also be possible to subcontract from some of the larger organisations e.g. TNT.
If you need to buy a vehicle, how much can you afford to spend?
As I suggested - you need to do a lot of research first.Gwlad heb iaith, gwlad heb galon0 -
I can only reiterate what a very competitive market it is. I control transport for my firm and get at least 4 new couriers a month asking for work.WHOOOOSHHHHHHHHH……..
Blimey what was that ?
That was your life mate
Oh I wasn’t quite ready can I have another go ?
Sorry mate only one per person.0
