Hi,
I've been using confused.com to search for cheaper car insurance. Today I have a check of my credit record and I've noticed this that appears 3 times:
Searched by:AGP (ADMIRAL BELL DIAMOND ELEPHANT)Application type:Unrecorded Enquiry
And I've also noticed this:
Searched by:ROYAL & SUN ALLIANCE INSURANCE PLCApplication type:Unrecorded Enquiry
I've only used confused.com and insurancesupermarket, whats going on?

Organisations can only check your credit report with your consent, regardless of the type of search (credit application, enquiry, quotation etc) being undertaken. Lenders only factor credit application searches into their credit scoring, so no need to worry about the number of other types of searches recorded. But if you see any type of search on your report and didn't consent to it being made, you should dispute it either by contacting the organisation direct or the credit reference agency.
It is my understanding that not all organisations offer the opt-out facility, so it is important to examine the Ts and Cs before accepting them to make sure you understand what you are consenting to and what the implications are. The current arrangements for using third party information in credit decisions and the way this is reflected on credit reports sent to the public were all agreed between the industry and the Information Commisioner (who regulates the use of personal information). And Ts and Cs have to make it completely clear how any data they are collecting about you might be used.

My Experian has thrown up exactly the same search following an enquiry to Confused.Com -- seems a bit underhand and I have to admit to being a little confused myself........!!0

In my experience, some insurance companies do leave a footprint on your credit report (as an Enquiry, not one other lenders can see) if they appear in your list of quotes from using confused.com.
I actually contacted Royal Sun & Alliance, as they appeared on my credit report and they advised this is what had happened to me.
I was searching for car insurance at the time.
May explain what's happening to you.Back on the DFW Wagon:
CC - £3,300 on 0% til 04/2020
CC - £4,500 on 0% til 02/2019
Loan - £12,063.84 as at 4/1/180 -
Hello
Thank you for your query regarding our credit searches.
Some of our partners may use credit searches as part of their quotation process. These searches are conducted as part of the quotation process in order for us to determine whether or not each potential customer is able to pay by Direct Debit.
We have been reliably informed that these are classified as "unrecorded enquiries" and it is important to stress that they do not count as the same type of search as if you apply for a credit card where a large number can affect applications for finance. Therefore, these unrecorded enquiries will have no effect on your ability to obtain credit.
I hope this information helps.

I too was "confused" when I did a free experian credit check (dont forget to cancel the payments before the 4 weeks is up!) and I saw AGP (ADMIRAL BELL DIAMOND ELEPHANT) come up. The only other checks had been done by identifiable, and explicable agents - eg Utilities.
When I googled What is AGP (ADMIRAL BELL DIAMOND ELEPHANT)? I got a link to this forum! I had to go to Ask.com to get a link containing the following:
"Insurance quote comparison site Confused.com achieved a pre-tax profit of GBP6.8 million for the group, which also owns brands such as Admiral, Bell Direct, Diamond, elephant.co.uk and Gladiator Commercial."

I did then remember that I had done a confused.com search for affordable car insurance, so this must be the explanation. I hope this helps.Bargainbabe wrote: »Hi,
