Normal Aerial: ITV1 Reception Bad

Not a digital tv question but this seemed to be the right place
I have recently moved into a rented house and it has some sky cables (but don't want to subscribe or buy a freesat box atm) so I have just plugged the TV into the normal aerial socket.
BBC1, BBC2, C4 and C5 come perfectly fine but ITV1 doesn't - most of the time it is fuzzy and sometimes the screen will jump around or go as if it isn't tuned - I have tried with fine tuning option but no better. I have also scanned again to see if I can pick it up better at some other frequence but seems only a small block gets ITV1 and thats the bad one.
The aerial is located outside on the roof and is set up quite high
Does anyone know why only ITV1 is bad?

I would first try to see if it was tv or aerial at fault.
Borrow a tv from someone else, even a small portable would do. By the way it behaves you will know where the problem lies.
As you get good reception on other channels then if it is an aerial problem it will just be one of adjustment.
If it's a tv problem and retuning and/or rescanning doesn't solve the problem then you have to choose which is more cost effective, repair or replace.0 -
The other TV downstairs suffers from the same problem - so it would seem to be an aerial problem. I don't really want to adjust the aerial myself or pay someone to do it so I guess I will just have to live with it.0

Hi,
sorry to jump onto this thread but I have a question about my ariel.
We are due to be switching to digital today and I have just carried out the teletext test on page 284 I think it is.
The page shows that BBC1, BBC2 and CH4 will all work fine but then on ITV the test results show a failure.
Any idea if this means we will have a problem picking up the ITV digital signal?
Thanks guys.0 -

Are you in Devon on the Stockland Hill transmitter by any chance? The only channel that was switched yesterday was BBC2, you will need to retune to get this back. All the other channels will be switched on 20/5 when you will need to retune again. There's no reason why you should not get ITV1.
PS: Just noticed your username...so I suspect you are in Exeter...No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Bought a freeview box at first it was terrible but then tried a different aerial cable and now I am getting all the channels and great picture0
