Someone asked if there was a Tesco store in N.Ireland who had an optician. The new extension in Tesco, Carrickfergus now has an optician. I intend checking out the free eye test myself.;)0

My sister had the free eye test last time they did this promo, but she was charged £10 for Optomap, she was not told of any charge before the test or she would not of had Optomap (what ever that is),
very bad customer service, no explaination on the test and didn't no what she was paying for.
Her and her family will not use them again,0 -
just had the free eye test done this afternoon took about about 20mins very impressed with the test and the staff, need glasses for reading and computer. no pressure selling from them either, great deals on frames as well.0

I had my eye test this morning at the Surrey Keys Tesco and had the same experience as mickog above: staff extremely courteous, professional, check very thorough and absolutely no sales pressures.
The only regret I have is that I could not buy the specs there (I need regular, sunglasses and reading glasses) although they have a very good 2 for 1 offer - unfortunately all the frames were either too small or too sparkly/bling, which is totally NOT ME!
I would recommend the eye test service very highly, it compares very favourably with other high street opticians.
AND I got myself the 100 points! Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -

My Mum bought glasses from them recently & was very concerned that the girl who was 'trying' to take measurements was 'off the till' & she said she didn't know what she was doing. Wrong lenses were ordrered, glasses were lost & all this was because the staff are not trained & can be moved around the store at any time.
Not an ideal situation when it is eyes they are dealing with & not fruit & veg!!
My Dad got roped into getting Varifocals buy the untrained cashier - he took them home and used them as instructed. They were terrible - I am so glad he didn't have an accident as he said when he was driving the dashboard was really close and he couldn't see the signs so he didn't wear them.
He went back and spoke to the optician who said he didn't need varifocals - can you believe he had to ask for the extra £150 he paid out for them?!!A very busy Yummy Mummy to a 1 year old gorgeous boy :smileyhea
Where does the time go? :think:0 -
Thank for sharing. Bout time I booked myself in.0

Take the instore leaflet with you when you go. They seem to know about the free eye test, but need reminding about the 100 points, particularly if you're not buying the specs there and then.0

I had the free eye test at Tesco and was very impressed with the whole set up. The optician was very thorough and the staff very knowledgeable. Good selection of frames and I got two for the price of one. Thanks for the tip-off. Excellent all round.:T0

The quality of your eye test is down to the individual optometrist, not the shop where you have it done, though the 2 are sometimes connected. Independent, long established opticians tend to have experienced, professional staff, while the supermarkets and high street chains more often have newly qualified and locum staff. Having said that, I had a nightmare experience when I thought it would be more conveniemt for me to get an eye test at one optician and choose frames and get the glasses made up in another. The manageress at Tesco (Bar Hill, Cambridge) was excellent (unfortunately now moved on) and eventually sorted out all the problems caused by Vision Express, but it took months of to-ing and fro-ing, as each will blame the other. Again, the essential difference was the competence of the optometrist at each establishment. If in doubt use an old established firm - it may not be as cheap, but for complex prescriptions it's worth it for the quality of the service and the result.0

I just tried to book an appointment with the Tesco across from my work and they said they were fully booked to the end of the promo.
As it happens, there's another one on my way home, so I've got an appointment there for tomorrow.
Just a heads up for you, they may get busy as it draws to a close. So if ya haven't done it yet, gerrit dunn! The bankers stole my pension (and everyone else's). It should have earned a lot of money, but they took their bonus pot first.0
