It's *your* phone. Just don't answer it if you don't recognize the number! (Also a good way to avoid telemarketers ;)) And if they get abusive, don't stay on the line. Just say goodbye and hang up. Don't give them an explanation, as that just prolongs the discussion. You owe them money, not your time, and DEFINITELY not your peace of mind.

  • I'm not sure exactly when the courts get involved but if you are repaying your creditors even a token amount and they are harassing you as much as they are, the courts should take a very dim view of your creditors.

your creditors can contact you but they should not harass you and if you are finding it distressing (and it doesn't surprise me that you are, i can feel my blood boiling just reading about it), you can request that they communicate with you by letter.

we've found that if you stand your ground and complain in writing, they will leave you in (relative) peace. eventually.

    Hi livinginhope.
We have been going through the same as you recently while we wait for our DMP to kick in with CCCS. I have to say that the calls seem to be tailing off a bit this weekend.
We just didn't answer the phone before 9pm and left the answerphone to take it although the callers stopped leaving messages after a while but the answerphone still stores the callers number. One caller had left 11 "no message" calls while we were at work!
I wrote to all our creditors telling them to communicate in writing only but may as well have saved the paper. I can say that Morgan Stanley, Egg and Tesco have been OK and have not hassled us. The callers from Littlewoods (who seem to be all from Liverpool by the way and not from a call centre in India) have been very nice...even if the letters aren't!
Keep venting your frustrations on here and don't do what I did last week......threw everything onto the floor off a kitchen worktop and left my poor husband to clear up a mountain of tea-bags, coffee and sugar. Oh, and smashed the toaster for good measure. :o
Never done that before in my life and was really miffed at having to do without my morning coffee.

  • Just to let you know livinginhope that it will sort itself out. PayPaln are excellent, I joined them in june last year. They have really helped me. It wil, take quite a few weeks to sort out but don't let companies harrass you. They are not allowed to. If you feel harrassed just tell them that you will not take their call and you will report them. They can be fined for doing this if they persist. Please bear in mind that when you pay payplan your fixed amount each month it takes them about 10 to 15 days to pay your creditors. This is nothing to worry about at all. If you get any letters or calls from your creditors just pass them onto payplan, they are there to help you.. By the way if you are having problems with Lloyd's TSB it's probably from a call centre in India. They read off a script and do not know how to handle people with problem's. They can get quite nasty. Just tell them you are not taking this type of harrassment and tell them you are ending the call. Always tell payplan though, you must keep them informed. If you ever need to chat email me... I wish i had found this site when i Had problems to sort.. It is the best. Their are so many kind people on here who will give you the most fantastic advice... hope all goes well with you.. good luck and heres to your debt free day...

Nice to read that most of you have good experiences with payplan,we were a bit concerned at first as we hadn't heard of them, unlike CAB and national debtline, but since joining this site we now know they are ok.
Regarding Lloyds Tsb call centres, ,don't you just hate them,I don't talk to anyone from India,I just say I can't understand them(truth)and could they please speek English,I also ask them to spell their name, which they find infuriating.
Determined to chill this week and not get stressed out, take each day at a time and look forward to my debt free date of 58 years time

Hi LouLouskintypoo, don't mind you hijacking at all :D
From my experience over the last couple of weeks, creditors (not MBNA) who have called for OH,have all just asked for him, then when I ask who's calling they just reply 'his bank' they never say what it's about or which bank they're from.
I think it would be best to talk to your parents about your debt as it eats away at you and makes you very miserable, they probably know something is going on anyway, and are waiting for you to tell them what's wrong.I have come to realise that being in debt isn't something to be ashamed off, there are many of reasons why it happens and it's not normally being extravagant, just remember most people are in debt, probably even your parents, and you know the saying,a problem shared!
    Good luck
