Help with DMP

Please help, currently 97,500 in debt.Contacted CAB,they say they can't help with debts over 5,000,only option bankrupcy?I know this to be untrue,so contacted National Debtline, very helpful, but they put me through to Payplan as their workload was too great at moment.Payplan have taken all the details of the debts, and we have agreed to pay 115/month into a DMP.Have made 1st payment on 01/03/06,now we are being hounded with calls from creditors saying they have not received payment.Payplan say all creditors have been paid, and they are 'trying it on'.Has anyone out there with Payplan had this problem?
Also do Payplan let you know when all creditors have agreed to DMP,or are we just left in limbo?
None of the creditors are willing to waive charges or freeze interest at this stage,so debt is still mounting up.
Feel much better now, just putting it all down and finally telling someone what deep trouble we are in

Hi there
Im not sure how it works with Payplan but Im with CCCS and pay them £175 p/m on the first of each month which they normally get to the creditors around the 24th. I do still get a few calls from some creditors asking for 'token' payments but I politely inform them that if I could pay more would I really be on a DMP at the moment??
Stick with it as its still early days and it does get better (mine's only been 2 months now but the calls have reduced dramatically). I've learnt that life isnt about what you have it's about who have.:T0 -
Thanks, just got call from payplan, they say creditors would have got payments yesterday? but creditors (mainly Lloyds Tsb) keep telling me they have no knowledge of the DMP.Am I banging my head against a brick wall?Debt at highest £102k

I think the problem is that the lovely call centres don't always have the information on their 'systems' straight away. They are on comission to get some sort of payment from you and normally try to push for 'just a few pounds' as a token gesture.... Don't let them get away with it and stick to your guns. The lovely people at GE money took several months to leave me alone and they are the ones that I owe the least to.... lolI've learnt that life isnt about what you have it's about who have.:T0

I'm sorry the CAB told you that they don't deal with debts over 5k. That is laughable. How many people have debt problems under 5k at the moment? I can't believe any CAB would have that as a policy.
However, if you can offer over £100pm to your creditors, I think Payplan (or CCCS) will provide a better service, so you've ended up in the best place by a roundabout route.
Your DMP will settle down. Your creditors are just trying it on at the moment. Don't fall for any of it. If you think any of the threats might have substance, post it on here and we'll give you our opinion.
Best wishes.0 -
My creditors moaned for several weeks and many swore blind that they had heard nothing from Payplan. The first time this happened I believed them - but after a short while I realised that either they were just trying it on or because their call centres just don't know anything. Lloyds were amongst the worst. Eventually I began to ignore them and once my Justabank facility with Payplan was up and running I could see that my money was going to them. Now they don't bother phoning any more. Just be patient - they do take ages to settle down.0

Try the CAB Again... I have debts OVER yours and the CAB have worked hard to help me, they have, over the last few months realy worked hard to help me.. so I don't know why your CAB say they can't help...Good Luck.. Keep your Chin up.. it can only get better

Thanks for the replys, now know they are trying it on.Had call from MBNA last night at 11pm,the cheek of it,they also claim to have no payment, then asked what the 8.95 payment was for.Told them it was a pro rata payment and that was all they were going to get, they said it is not enough and the debt will be sold on,they also ASSURED me the phone calls at all hours of the day and night would continue! I got cheeky and said that as my OH works a nightshift it would be nice to speak to someone in the evenings,at which point the phone went dead!
Regarding the CAB,we have contacted them again, but they admitted that they don't know much about debt at that branch? I was of the understanding that all CAB knew about debt, they then advised we go to a larger CAB,but there was a waiting list.Debt at highest £102k

They are not allowed to phone you after 9pm - you can report them for harassment if they phone after this. Tell them that you are recording the phone call and will be reporting them.0

Thanks for that,I wasn't aware they are not allowed to call after 9pm,I did ask if this was normal,to which he said 'we want our money back.'
I am also wondering if they are allowed to talk to me about the account as it is my OH debt,I am just a cardholder, when I try to phone them they say they can't talk as it isn't my account,it's obvious, one rule for them, another for us!Debt at highest £102k

Tell them you only communicate by letter. I said this once and the reply was that I couldn't, they would phone me whenever they wanted - I left the phone with the guy hanging on and went off to make a cup of tea and do the washing up. Strangely he had gone by the time I picked up the phone again. I then wrote and said that I would only communicate in writing.0
