Chicken pox help !!

Hello,

Looking for some advice.

We are due to go to Majorca on Saturday with Thomsons.

Our 3yr old developed some spots at the Weekend and this morning was diagnosed with chicken pox at the doctors.

We explained our situation to the doctor and he said there is a good chance the infectious stage will be finished by then. He has arranged to see her again on Thursday morning to either give us a fit to fly letter or not fit to fly letter for the insurance.

Looking at Thomsons website there policy says you can fly seven days after the last spot appeared and you need a letter from the GP.

My query is around the fact that DD had a couple of new spots this morning which is now within the seven day period. Should the doc give us the all clear fit to fly on Thursday would that be enough to satisfy Thomson.

I'm unsure whether to tell the airline or insurance just now or hold off till Thursday when we see the GP again.

Just now she only has two spots on her face and half a dozen else where.

What do you lot think ??

Marco

Had them twice when I was growing up...

Anyways...your daughter should stay at home until all of the blisters have fully crusted over and this usually happens five to seven days after the first blister appears. After the last blister has burst and crusted over she will no longer be infectious. Airlines are increasingly concerned about children flying if they have chicken pox because it can have dreadful consequences for other passengers with lowered immune systems.

my daughter had them at easter and we couldnt go for over a week because like you said they kept appearing for a few days after the first ones and so seven days after the last ones appear she was contagious that will be why they say it can take upto ten days and it did for us but when they scab over shes fine but remember its when they have all scabbed over and the later ones will scab later than the first ones, its only fair that you dont get on a plane with them there could be someone under going chemotherapy on there and it could be very serious if they catch it that is why i kept her well away from my mum for ten days to make sure they were not contagious, the air conditioning on planes means everyone at risk will probably get them.i wouldnt hold much hope for a letter thursday if they are coming out today still but dont know i would start looking into insurance in case then you know where you stand with cancelling and i don hope she gets better they are a real pain i couldnt believe when we were stuck in for most of easter hols with them its sods law int it!!!!!!good luck i do hope you get your letter and she is ok by then but it seems to soon maybe friday at drs wouldve given you more time for them to scab?more chance of a letter!good luck!;)

I'd tell the doctor the whole truth and then let him/her make the decision as to whether or not to clear your child as fit to fly.
There is no such thing as a free lunch. Its only free because you've paid for it.

Noone can have everything they want and the sooner you learn that the better.

    Thanks for the replys folks.

DD saw the doc yesterday and confirmed she wasn't fit to fly tomorrow as the spots hadn't finished scabbing over.

Today I would say 50-75% have now scabbed over and she is feeling generally a lot better.

We are hoping to get away next Thursday as that is when the doc reckons should be well past the contagious part. Seeing him again on Tuesday to confirm. Going on Thursday will be nearly two weeks after the first symptoms so she should be fine by then hopefully.

Spoke to the insurance and they are sending out a claim form. How long to these companies take to pay out roughly. I suppose this should be a straight forward claim. Doc says she wasn't fit to fly so we couldn't go, end of i hope.

Kids eh, timing is impeccable. You got to luv them !!

As far getting money back from your travel insurance claim. It depends on what company you have. Some do it as fast as 2 weeks or so others up to a month.

I wish I'd seen this thread sooner.
I had exactly the same happen with my ex days before we were due to go on holiday and he only just got the all clear. To age this, it was back in the days when you could nip down to the post office and get a 1 yr passport and trust me, my ex's passport photo looked like a pepperoni pizza!
What made it worse for me was that this was the one and only time I had booked a holiday months and months in advance then this went and happened. It sucks but you have to think about everyone else on the plane and whilst we were on holiday, my ex had to take a couple of days out as he was totally exhausted from the illness.

Tell me about huglette my wife is 5 months pg thankfully we got her bloods done on the first visit to the dogs and she is immune to it as she had it as a kid.

I'm actually quite glad she got it early in life as it won't affect the new born and she won't miss any school with it, has to be said 3 weeks later would have been all the better.

get some echinacea cream for the spots - it dries them up and stops them itching - much better than calomine lotion.
