Help, fraudsters have purchased my items

Hi, I have just found two of my auctions sold to fraudsters with almost identical userids both in the Netherlands and -1 feedback via buy it now. I want to reinstate the auction as it was but buy it now has stymied me. I'm not even interested in wasting my time getting in contact with these muppets, I just want my auction back ASAP, before Christmas.

One of the items is already a relisting. I just want the auction back as it was, no fees for me to pay, as this is really really tiresome.

ok, wasn't too hard I submitted an unpaid item dispute, on the basis that they were outside the UK and got an immediate refund.

Still ebay is evil, as they have made money out of me from these scamming monkeys and won't refund it. They refund the listing fee but won't refund the other fees I pay (bold, etc.), and also won't refund the Nokia 7600 listing fee at all, as it already didn't sell once.

And I can't block bids from people with zero feedback....

As your buyer is NARU you can immediately relist and claim the Final value fees back, you won't have to wait the 7 days. I realise that this doesn't help you get your listing fees back though.

Phones are so problematic on ebay that it might be worth doing it as a short auction, say 3 or 5 days instead and not offer a BIN. Then you have some control over your bidders. Also, it is now possible to set your preference to exclude bidders with an overal negative feedback ratio, so do that automatically on all your auctions as well. Oh yes, and you can also set your preferences so that only people from the countries you will ship to can bid.

Finally, can I make an observation please? You are offering recorded delivery for the posting, this won't insure your phone if it is lost in the post and of course if that happened the buyer would be able to do a full chargeback against you. For items over £28 Special delivery is the only way to post.

hi thanks for the recorded delivery thoughts.... Are you sure about the chargeback? If I offer insurance, then if they don't take it up, then isn't it their problem. I will have proof that I sent the item, so they won't be able to claim I didn't send it.

Can you point to ebay's policy on this?

It's not an ebay policy it is a paypal condition.

You can put what you like in your auctions but if a seller claims not to have received their item then paypal will ask you for the online tracking number and if that doesn't show delivery the buyer will receive their money back.

    http://www.paypal.com/uk/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=xpt/seller/ChargebackRisk-outside#Q6

What I usually do is for very low priced items i just get a certificate of posting and if a buyer claims not to have received their item I refund them and claim back off the post office. For larger items I use either recorded delivery if under £28 or registered for over £28 and in those cases I would ask the buyer to be patient and wait for me to make the appropriate claim against the post office insurance. However, I realise that this doesn't protect me fully as a buyer is entitled to start the paypal chargeback to protect themselves in which case paypal would put a hold on my funds.

I dont think you are protected at all as I sold £100 vouchers through ebay, received an immediate payment through paypal and then sent the goods registered post. 2 Days later paypal said they wanted the money back as the item was paid for by a fraudulant card (their problem I thought as they had registered this person) but apparently NO! They took the money back...and wait for it...a £10 admin fee charged to me..the innocent seller. So I dont hink I could have done more..I took payment through paypal, and posted registered post.
Absolutely mad, dont think I will be trustworthy again
  • As soon as my balance is over £50 I withdraw the money from paypal then they cant touch you.
Quite frankly paypal stink they market themselves as secure payment but the seller takes all the risks, I mean how are we supposed to know credit card is fraudulent.
Paypal SHOULD have safeguards in place to prevent this but they dont and sellers take the hit whilst they rake in a FAT profit.
If it weren't so damn convenient then Paypal would be dead in the water.

Oh Merry Christmas by the way! ;)

I've had the same thing a 2 x mobile phones listed on ebay were bought via BIN.

Similar story 'daughter in Nigeria pay via Western union etc'.

Ive filed a unpaid item dispute - as the buyer is no longer a registered - so I assume that this means I can get the listing and final value fee back?

I want to relist asap, do I use 'sell a similar item', or wait for the dispute claim to come through - or will the item automatically be relisted? 1st experience of Nigerian scammsters I'm afraid.

Ebay help function is abismal and I don't want to wait a week for the ebay staff to eventually answer an email.

I have the -ive feedback blocker on and the fraudster still managed to purchase via BIN - which to be frank is a pain in the bum. I also specifically selected only UK delivery when listing the item, so how come the buyer could still purchase?

Also, I use both Special Delivery and recorded delivery- depending on weight and value of the item being sold. I thought paypal accepted recorded delivery as proof that an item has been dispatched and received in the event of a claimback - can anyone give a definitive yes or no from experience?

    Thanks
I do hope you're telling the truth?

Both are OK for paypal purposes but if you can't prove delivery, ie if the post office lose the item, then recorded delivery will only reimburse you up to £28. So if you send a £100 phone via recorded delivery and it doesn't show as 'delivered' on the Royal Mail website the buyer can do a chargeback against you and you can only claim from the post office up to £28 so you lose out. It is up to the seller to prove delivery that's why a certificate of posting is insufficient as it only shows posting.

I have one at the moment, parcel sent recorded delivery on 11th December and still not showing as delivered. Buyer wants it urgently but I have persuaded her to wait a couple more days yet just in case it turns up, but at any point up to day 30 she can start a chargeback and as I cannot prove delivery I lose out. In this case though the item totalled £20 so if I do have to refund I can at least claim back from the post office so I won't be out of pocket.
