Speed Camera Advice Please

My son as phoned me today and told me while he was driving a speed camera flashed him, the thing is he was on the opposite side of the road going in the other direction, if i remember right, the markings on the opposite side of the road, where to stop people going over into the other lane to avoid the flash am i right in thinking this is still right. Thanx in advance, by the way he realises he should not be speeding but this would be his first 3 points

Not much you can do right now but sit and wait.

    He may never hear anything.

If he does, then you need to decide, 1 is he guilty, if so then just pay up,
2 if not then get help so that he doesnt get fined and or points.

    This site may help.

Thanx, looking at how they work it says "Gatso speed cameras are rear facing as they use a 'flash' to photograph the vehicle. They do not flash the front of your vehicle because this would be a dangerous distraction for the driver" so im guessing if it was a gatso camera their would be an onus on the prosecuter to prove that the camera flashing him from the front wasnt dangerous to other road users and pedestrians, would this be right

Before the "He shouldnt be speeding" brigade comes on, he knows its wrong to speed and it might be his first points in 10 years of driving.

Gatso cameras don't flash oncoming cars, they only flash after you've passed the camera, and the two flashes will produce two images of the car crossing the gridlines, to corroborate the initial radar reading.

These devices often malfunction, or can be triggered by reflected images. I'd be amazed if your son received a NIP, which has to be sent to the registered keeper within 14 days of an alleged offence.

I have been providing assistance, including Lay Representation at Court hearings (current score: won 57, lost 14), to defendants in parking cases for over 5 years. I have an LLB (Hons) degree, and have a Graduate Diploma in Civil Litigation from CILEx. I've managed to set off a speed camera from the opposite side of the road a few times now and I've never received a ticket. I doubt they can actually enforce it if taken from the other side of the road. I'd be surprised if he got a ticket.

If there is one single person in the whole of the country that can stand up and say they`ve NEVER gone over the limit at some time or other, then they are a liar.
