Wanadoo ripping me off!

Oops I posted this on the wrong board! So now I hope to hear from anyone else who has been treated the same.
I'm incensed and choking on my own rage. I have been a loyal Wanadoo customer ever since the days when they were called freeserve. At the moment I pay £29.99 a month for a 512k uncapped internet connection.
Now when Wanadoo took over freeserve because they were only offering a 1Mb capped internet access for £17.99 (if I remember correctly) to all their new customers, they also offered us exsisting customers the choice of keeping our 512k connection uncapped and continue to pay £29.99 a month. Fair enough I thought. I'm a heavy internet user i'll do that.
Now today low and behold I find out that Wanadoo quietly snuck in the following deal which wasn't there before. 8Mb UNCAPPED internet connection for £29.99!
Wanadoo are quick to remind me every month that payment is about to be taken from my debit card, or when they want me to buy something from them so why on earth would they not instantly upgrade me?
I know morally they are in the wrong but surely I have grounds to ask for some of my money back? They didn't even send out an e-mail telling us this service was now available. Pffff!!
Anyone else been burnt?

I've just phoned them to get my MAC code to move to another provider and they agreed to change my account from 17.99 a month to 14.99 to match the "new member" offer. I did have to ask but I'm sure they would rather keep you than lose you - although I don't reckon they'll give you any money back.0

I gave up on Wanadoo a year or two ago when they refused to give me the same deal as new customers were getting. They made no effort whatsoever to keep me and it was really like that advert on the TV as they just kept saying I couldn't have the cheaper deal as it was for new customers only..

Wanadoo were a nightmare this last month as I moved home. They charged me £25 to move, then told me they were going to charge me full whack line rental for broadband even though I couldnt connect. When I did get back up and running, they told me I couldnt access my account for 10 days - even though later that night my password became active again.
It was a right mess and their staff are just plain useless and uninformed !!!! Once my twelve month contract is up I am moving !!!0 -
Been with Freeserve/Wanadoo since 1999 worked up through their offerings from free dial-up to 1Meg capped Broadband at £17.99 about 18 months ago. At every improvement to their service they have made better offerings to new customers than to existing customers. e.g £7.99 half price Anytime and £14.99 introductory on Broadband. This basically relies on people's inertia
Their current official stance is £20 to upgrade the speed from 1Meg to 2meg (8Meg max but not actually available) for existing customers. I've just been told by the India call centre that this is due to a BT charge to upgrade the line, not sure if this is true. However, as soon as the magic word MAC was mentioned I was transfered to the Middlesborough Broadband care team who immediately offered a speed upgrade including wireless for nothing more than my existing package price plus someone from their team will ring me Tuesday PM to ensure I've managed to set up OK.
So things might be changing although I will never ring their technical support line again if I can avoid it. Techies on this board are much more competant.0 -
Hi monkeyspanner, i have been having probs with dropped connection with wanadoo for a month now, and (embarressed to say this) i think my usb might be a little dodgy on lappy from plugging modem in/out all the time, laapy off to manufacturors this week so really need to look into going wireless so this doesnt happen again, are you now wireless for £14-99 and they give you equipment0

I've been with Wannadoo for a good while, since they were Freeserve. Anyway, I pay £17.99 for 1mb capped per month on credit card. Been getting dropped connections a lot recently, so just wondering who I would need to call, and what this magic "MAC" number is that everyone has been mentioning and where I would find it. Thanks for any info. :-)“Ordinary riches can be stolen, real riches cannot. In your soul are infinitely precious things that cannot be taken from you.” - Oscar Wilde0

I phone 01642 732794, told the i wanted my mac number to migrate, was put through to someone who asked why i was leaving, i told them they where offering new customers up to 8 meg for £14-99 whilst i was paying £17-99 for 1 meg, and they wanted £20 to upgrade me to 2 meg, he offered me the upgrade to 2 meg, (no £20 charge) as thats all line can take, for £14-99 no new tie in contract so can leave when i want, was upgraded within a day and only been charged the £14-99

Thanks for that Helen. I've just called the number but it's engaged continuously. Guess a lot of MSErs trying to get through...;) My billing date has passed so hopefully catch it in time for next month.“Ordinary riches can be stolen, real riches cannot.
