of course, you could go with Reilly, Folk 'n' Good to twist the previous poster's suggestion into sometihng that works. Mick 'n' Nicks might alreay be taken.;)
I like pun type business names - ironing services called Pressed for Time for example, or Paws for thought for dog shampooing...cheezy but they work.
If it were me, I'd appeal to the increasing number of women who have to take their car to the garage but feel a bit intimidated.
I'm an engineer and still feel daunted going into a garage sometimes, so when I found one I liked I stuck with it.
It does have to refer to what he does in either the name or the banner underneath.
Jely is mispelled, sounds wobbly and messy. If you want your name above the door, then put your name above the door - Jack Ely and family, caring for your car, sounds better than some wierd acronym.;)Member of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19

Balance 1st November '09 = mortgage paid off with £1903 left over. Title deeds are now ours.0 -
Be careful using family names for a business, it will make it harder to get money for the goodwill of the business when you sell it on if the person that takes it over has to rebrand. I know it is hard to think about selling a business before you have even set it up but it is best to think about it now!
Also avoid using town names or local features in case you open another branch or relocate. I once worked for a company called "Riverside xxx" (I won't give the full name) as the original was on the riverside, when the second branch opened nowhere near a river the name made no sense to new customers at all!
Also check the company name can be easily turned into a web address. Even if you don't see the need for a website now in 5-10 years it may be essential for any business. Keep spelling simple and check domains are available and register them. You may come up with a quirky name that you'd expect to be unique but worldwide you'd be surprised how many other companies already use the name online. I've seen it really hinder companies with their web presence.
Sorry if that has complicated things but getting the brand right first time is essential, rebranding can cost a huge amount of money.0 -
And if it's going to be a limited company, make sure there's not another business with the same or similar name. I had to change my company name as it was deemed too like another one. What a palaver ...0

Garage against the machine?
Due car and attention?
Is J for Jim? He could fix it if so ...0 -
Why not go on yell.com or similar and look at business names on there for some inspiration. Search on an area in another part of the country so that you are not copying a local business.Today is the first day of the rest of your life0

Seriously, how about:
"J'll 'fix it' auto centre" (perhaps you could also give each of the first 100 customers a "J'll fix it" medal which gives them 20% off their next garage bill).
Edit: If you use any of the names in this thread - will the winner also get some money off their car repairs if they live near you?!?
