It's not really the late payment fee that I'm bothered about (annoying as it is) but the effect that this 1 month may have on an otherwise well-managed account, and therefore on my credit file.

However, this post would indicate that I should be reasonably ok as long as I don't mess up again...

As I say, annoyed at myself and I think Direct Debit is the way to go from now on!

A late payment doesn't really have an effect as most companies DO NOT report them, it's usually missed payments that get reported, but again a one off would have a negliable effect. There are a couple of exceptions but those are few.

Card coimpanies look for trends and patterns, particularly over the previous 6-12 months, everryone can be forgiven for making one late payment, even card companies are forgiving in that respect.
