HBOS Credit Card: late payment enquiry

Hi all,

My next HBOS credit card payment is due on Tue 5th May. I made payment over the phone on Friday May 1st, by using another current account (Clydesdale) and providing the sort code/account number details for the credit card payment to be made.

The guidelines given by HBOS are up to 4 working days to make a payment either from an external bank account or an HBOS account.

Obviously this is entirely my fault and the next thing I am going to do is set up a direct debit for future…However, I was wondering:

1) Is there any possibility of this payment actually meeting the deadline? Taking the holiday Monday into account.

2) Can any HBOS customers advise if a transfer from an HBOS current account (either online or over the phone) is ever made instantly, despite the 4 days advised above?

3) This is the first late payment I have made on this card (at least for the last 12-18 months). Can anyone advise what sort of effect this will have on my credit rating? Would it be worth at this stage making the extra payment in point 2 above?

I’m going to phone HBOS asap to try and clarify, but thanks for any help in the meantime.

Is HBOS still a real name?

Anyway my Bank of Scotland (all HBOS logs removed I'm glad to say) current account permits FasterPayments and payments take 1 or 2 hours when going into my credit cards etc. I noticed this weekend though when I went to do one it failed and I was only offered a 'normal' payment transfer -ie 3-4 days. I've never had a failed FP.

So, either things are under maintenance or due to the Bank Holiday things slow up. Either way I doubt your payment will get there but it may. If it doesn't phone them and be very nice and polite but firm about how good a customer you've been. Obviously, don't phone until the payment has cleared.

Generally, if you've made a debit card payment via a voice call (a real person was it?) the money is taken immediately but it would still take 2-3 days to appear on your CC.

Payment wont get there im afraid, HBOS cards dont have faster payments so will take the usual 3-4 business days.

If you have had no recent charges call them up shouldnt be an issue really for a refund providing the person you talk to aint an idiot.

Will show on your credit file usually as a late pymnt, not sure in the current climate if that will be massive issue, believe wouldnt impact you more if you have a lot of late pymnts ect which would indicate poor management of finances. Paying an extra payment will have no bearing or make a difference in terms of your credit file. will reduce your intrest slightly on your card..

    Good luck

Late payments are viewed as negative only if you attract more than two in a short space of time. Even then, the effect is very short-lived. It's your payment history with all your creditors over the last 6 years that counts, with particular emphasis on the most recent 12 months.

If you ring Halifax Card Services on 01315 498050, you'll avoid the perishing 0870/0845 numbers ;)

If you can get to a branch tomorrow, it should be ok for you to pay cash in then (I think ...)

Unfortunately, the funds would still take four working days to clear.

.....and it could still be dated as an ontime payment, though that depends on the bank. It certainley is in the case of MINT and AMEX. As for HBOS though ?

I'm not sure about HBOS, but that certainley IS the case with LLoyds.

The statement will say it takes up to 4 days to clear for most transactions but CASH paid over the counter on the DUE DATE at a Lloyds branch into a Lloyds credit card is accepted as an ontime payment, so it may also work elsewhere.

I pay cash in over the counter at Halifax and it shows as entering the account next day.

Unfortunately, this would be too late for the OP, wouldn't it?

It depends if it's a BOS or Halifax card. If you pay in cash, in the branch before 3pm then they send an email through to customer services in card servicing confirming the payment has been received so no late payment fee is charged but the cash will take the 3-4 days to clear and appear as available funds.

If it's a BOS card, it can only be paid in a BOS branch and likewise for Halifax although on the odd occasion that rule seems to be flaunted.
