Cottonwool buds - the con

I have a feeling I may be in the minority here, but until last week, I never realised that you can buy cottonwool buds at half the price I would normally expect to pay.

Thanks to my mum for this tip. - Cottonwool buds in Boots are usually £1.10. The 'baby' cottonwool buds are only 55p. And that's for the same amount, plus they look exactly the same. The only difference between them, as far as I can see, is the packaging. And who wants to pay for packaging!

Saying that, they're not something i buy very often, so i expect you can probably buy them cheaper elsewhere. If so, let me know. Look after the pennies...

The last Cotton buds I bought were from Poundland. Three big cartons for £1. will probably last you years.

My last doctor said that cotton buds should be banned. as they cause more ear problems than they help.
Unfortunately I cant help a good rummage with a bud, and am sat here with earache while I am typing this!

yes I too found that buying the baby cotton buds in the Asda george range were far cheaper.

Remember having a burst ear drum when I was younger because of messing around in there with a cotton bud - thought I was dying cause of the pain!

i once got the end of the cotton bud stuck in my ear and had to go to casualty to get it out !

Try and be a little careful with the cotton buds. You can actually push harden ear wax down the ear canal while cleaning your ears. Therefore u may end up needing to get your ears syringed. These little buds can cause major problems.

My aviation medical examiner had a fetish about ears - unsurprising as flying and ear problems are not good together. He would clean out my ears with a small wire hook every time I had an examination and pull out loads of wax. He also cautioned strongly about using cotton buds. He said that the only thing I was allowed to put in my ear was my elbow.

When buying cotton buds, don't buy the crappy giant box from poundland etc.... its not worth the hassle. The cotton comes off in your ear, the end can be sharp and cause great pain, and the pipes which hold the cotton on can break/snap/bend when you least expect it and cause you to push harder then you wanted. It really is better paying a bit more for a reputable brand that you know will be better quality and less risk to your lugholes.
