Linux should be fine for most people who just want to Browse the internet, send emails etc. At first it can feel a bit different to Windows but you soon get used to it. For Windows you can add at least £50 to the price

I've just watched the youtube video about upgrading the RAM and it looks like hard work and would invalidate the warranty. Why did the make it so difficult?!

    Why does everyone say/think that?
There is no warranty seal to break, so, as long as you don't damage anything in a noticable way during the upgrade your warranty will be fine.
  • Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but this is a serious error by the hopeless DSG group. The links provided by the OP is the 80GB one.

This is the correct one priced at £169.99.

I only know this as I looked at it a few days ago when looking for one.

That link is for the white one - and who is to say that that is correct?

As a previous poster has shown, the Acer website shows this model has a 120gb drive.

The one I have said 120gb on the box. It actually has 160gb in it.

At the end of the day, distance selling regs protect you - if you're not happy with what turns up, just send it back. A screenshot of the page stating it had 120gb would be enough to claim incorrect goods and get your postage back.

Be *very* careful during the RAM upgrade. The YouTube video I watched (and followed) had the guy actually snapping the connector that holds in the keyboard and mouse but he does not state that he has done this. So of course, I ended up breaking mine the same way. Lucklily I did manage to fix it, but it was touch and go.

When removing the kb/mouse connector use a credit card and very gently lever the connector *UP* not *OFF*. This will hopefully save someone the cold sweat followed by the "uh-oh, I now have an expensive doorstop" feeling that I had.

Apart from that, tis a fantastic machine. Running XP on my 160GB/1.5GB model :-)

    Cheers,
    Mike

Thats a lie. Yes, its a bit of a faff and can be daunting if you are new to linux, but it took me 10minutes to get my t mobile dongle working.

  • I bought one of these when the offers were on at asda. it was for this model, stated 80gb hard drive but when arrived it was 120gb, loads and loads of people have also confirmed this. I have upgraded the RAM to 1.5gb and was fairly easy, with loads of tutorials online and youtube. I also have installed bluetooth dongle inside and use it in the car for satnav and also for mobile internet with my nokia phone as a modem. Great buy these.
Mine came with linux on it which is good for usual browsers etc, tried Mac OS on it, but i couldnt get it to run stable so i installed Windows XP on it. might even dabble with windows 7 next month when it comes out on trial.
