I think you are thinking of doing a good thing, but are taking too much of this on by yourself. Get advice from the allotment society, mark out the plots, let the plot holders do the rest. Of course anything you can do to make it easier for them the better they will like it.
Big water tanks are good, but they can also provide their own if they want them. the allowance to have sheds and greenhouses will be good and up to you.

our allotments are council run and they are responsible for the fencing/gates on the access road, and the plot holders are responsible for the internal fences, seems a fair deal what you suggest by giving plot holders the option. instead of paths you could use stakes and some lengths of wire to mark out the boundries of each plot in the first instance then its up to the plot holders. (what i mean is a stake 3ft high with two lengths of wire running from stake to stake one at 1 1/2 ft and the other on the top. Like a wire fence only cheaper!!

I would also make a rule against trees/saplings, Im lumbered with a tree on my plot that produces nothing but blossom!! I think i will be taking a chainsaw to it over the autumn depending on what it looks like in bloom.

What is it, maybe it just needs a pollination partner?

I havent a clue ive only been an alotmenteer for little over a month lol. I just know according to other plotholders its not a fruit tree (it looks very pretty though in summer LOL). I will take a piccy tommorow :D and if it does need a "pollonation partner" hopefully you could recommend one (do trees have an online dating site :rotfl: )

Personally Im glad we can put sheds on our own plot much more convienient. the rules on our plot is that 2/3 of the land must be cultavated (which means turned over at the very least) the other 1/3 can be sheds/chicken coops and chicken runs. Although I think that rule is there because some people are using there plots as builders yards.

Also are you going to allow chickens to be kept? Some lotties do some dont?

And if you do, I am not 100% sure, but i think you cant set the limit on the number, the DEFRA guidlines is <50 without a licence. I know they tried telling me on my plot that the max is 20 hens and 1 cockrel. But apparently its unenforcable as long as you dont break the DEFRA guidlines on sq meter per bird for run and coop ect.

    Dont get me started LOL.

Ive been an allotment holder for all of six weeksish. What i dont like, the fact that some plot holders use there plots as builders yards, someone who has a plot near me was looking after my plot before I got it. Friday I was digging a bed over and found spilled diesel and now tommorow i have to wait in for a phone call from an inspector to come look at my plot!! the guy stored fishing boat engines (and im not talking a outboard, im on a bout fishing for a living kind of fishing boat engines) on the plot along with nets/crab pots/ ect!!!:mad::mad:

Apart from that its ok, well theres a lot of politics and backbiting down where i am but i just let em get on with it, nod in agreement when anyone says anything and play devils advocate :A

I thought sheds on allotment would be more convinient but other half wants them on edge of field! yes was going to allow chickens, and I like the idea of stipulating that 2/3 must be culitvated, I was going to give a limit to the amount of area of buildings (sheds/ greenhouses) etc allowed obviously within reasonable amounts that is, owners would have to allow me to check on any animals kept there without notice in order that i can ensure all are kept properly, do you think that is OK?

I wouldnt want people using it as cheap storage, and contaminating the land, thanks for telling me about that
