And be able to use the recording facility.........From my little bit of research I think the answer is no, unless I pay £10 a month for the privilige, but most of that info has been quite old.
Can anyone confirm this?

Correct, supposedly there is a version of the sky + that can be hacked to allow it to work but i have no idea how to do it.... the only other way is to pay sky £10pm for the ability, or alternatively just sign up to the lowest package £16.50pm.....
incidentally i have a sky plus box for sale on ebay if your interested :beer:0 -
I don't think there's a fee for Sky+ anymore. You will need an LNB that can supply two feeds to the Sky+ box though, otherwise you'll have trouble recording.0

SKY+ is only "no fee" if you subscribe to SKY. Otherwise it's £10/month.
Edit. An LNB is the part on the end of the arm sticking out from the dish. The bit that picks up the satelite signal. Needs to be at least a dual LNB but usually Quad are used for SKY+.0 -
Another option is a Freesat+ PVR or another non sky PVR but they are more technical to use and may not give you the same channel line up you have now. A single feed from your current LNB will work with restrictions but for best results you need a duel (although quad is more normal but makes no difference) LNB with two feeds running to the box.0
