Best to be sure you're covered properly, just in case your seller tries to say they didn't receive or that they received damaged etc.

Return does have to be trackable, yes. However I have noticed a number of posts on this forum from people who have experienced problems with Recorded Delivery, and it not tracking as delivered online.

If your Recorded item were for whatever reason unable to be tracked online, your seller could in theory claim non-receipt and refuse you a refund. In this case you would only be able to claim a maximum of £39 back from Royal Mail, therefore losing out on a sizeable chunk of cash. Special Delivery is compensated up to a maximum of £2500, which would enable you to claim the full item cost.

At the end of the day it's up to yourself how you want to do it. I can only say what I personally would do were I in the same position, and that would be to send it Special.
