Can any vets or medical people shed any light on the differencve between Advantage/Advocate & Stronghold/Revolution, because from what I can make out they are the same???

My two were started off on Stronghold. The next time we got some from the vet I was given Frontline instead. One of them had a reaction to it (bald patch at point of contact). He's now back on the Stronghold, and the other will finish the Frontline.

It's a major PITA because I need to make a blinking vet appointment every time I need to get more Stronghold, not to mention how expensive it is (and yes, my Vet charges a lot for paper prescriptions)
    My TV is broken!

I'll bet your vet charges a consultation fee along with the 100% markup for the treatment itself?

Google for online sales of stronghold, it's legally available.

I have 4 cats and have been using Frontline Spot-On for years. But, I'm looking for an alternative as it isn't working any more!
I have 2 Maine Coons, one has an allergy, which may be to fleabites, though he never appears to have any flea dirt on him. The other is riddled with flea dirt yet never scratches! My vet agrees with me that the "one size fits all" dose in Frontline pipettes does not take into account large, long-haired breeds and is pushing Advocate.
I also use a spray for the house which has a growth inhibitor. The cheap spray often don't have this and you only kill off the current batch of fleas, not the larval stages.
"Cheap", "Fast", "Right" -- pick two.

Since when? I enquired at Viovet a while back, it was pretty clear they required a prescription.

    & you're absolutely right!!!!

    I don't use it & believed what I was told :o

After speaking to my friend he's been economical with the truth... it is legally available without prescription but NOT in this country. He gets his from abroad apparently?

Thats him getting a slap when I see him

    Apologies for the misleading info

I use Stronghold for my cats and Practic for my dog, Milbemax for worms and these would be my #1 suggestions at the moment.

Stronghold and Advocate are fairly similar and treat ear mites and some worms as well as fleas. Advantage only really treats fleas and is not comparable. The holy grail is a single treatment that does fleas, ear mites, round and tapeworms and when that becomes available, it is going to clean up the market (if it is sensibly priced).

    Frontline - normal
Works on cat instantly, just treats fleas & ticks, does not last.
    Frontline Combo/Plus
As Frontline, but lasts on the animal a full month. Sure I heard it treats the home as well as the hairs & skin cells that drop off the cat have it on & it treats everywhere, Not sure if it enters the bloodstream to do this???

    !

All the three Frontline products are waterproof and last for 30 days at least. My vet said more like 6 weeks.

My two get Frontline spot on (not combo) around every 6 -8 weeks from end of March till October. Can't use combo, one gets irritation from application. Not had a flea around these parts for years.
