Intentional. Bassett and Shar Pei crosses are known as Ba-Shar (Sharp Asset) and are a new breed of designer hybrid. The American Canine Hybrid Club has recognized the Ba-Shar breed.

    the 'American Canine Hybrid Club'.....?

'Designer Hybrid' I presume is what was being called a 'designer cross-breed' last year, and just a plain old crossbreed or mongrel a few years back... its funny how people are seeking to legitimise these crosses, presumably it 'adds value' to the pups, financially.

I have nothing against mutts, in fact I have always had mongrels, but I am not sold on this method of marketing dogs.

ETA - I am not sure it is a wise cross either (it couldnt be considered a breed, as far as I can see, just a first generation cross), both due to temprement and health factors - it seems odd to cross two dogs that are prone to similar eye and skin problems - I hope both parents had all necessary health checks before breeding.

You are more than welcome to your opinion :D

I adore her and am well aware of the medical problems that could be inherent and she has had full and complete checks. Her temperament is perfect though - she is bright and quick to learn. Not at all stubborn.

I should add, although I am not sure why I feel the need to justify myself to you, that I had no idea that she would be considered a 'designer hybrid'. I just knew she was perfect for our family and so we bought her.

essentially, its how all breeds originate.

Many ''legitimate breeds'' are still kept, and adored, despite their roles/careers in today's society being non existant, and this too has problems.

IMO I'd rather have 'legitimatised' crosses with, importantly, pedigrees being kept so that health problems etc can be monitored for future breeders, than the alternative.

I'm intrigued by the cross here too, but depsite any reservations, by goodness she is cute! I hope she gives you many many years of joy OP.
