in Credit cards
Hi There,
I recently took out a Halifax ONE Credit card with 0% interest for 12 months, my payment due date is the 5th May and within the last three weeks I set up a direct debit from my current account to pay off the minimum amount from the credit card.
However, I have never had a credit card and there's a couple of things confusing me a little:
Thanks

However, I have never had a credit card and there's a couple of things confusing me a little:
- The payment due date is quite imminent, when is the payment likely to be made from the current account to the credit card?
- When I click on make a payment on my online banking, it takes me to a page where I can make a minimum payment which they claim to be £0.00
or I can make a payment for an amount specified by myself. Is the minimum payment amount correct or am I missing something?
Thanks

Do you have a balance on the card?
What is the minimum payment?
Usually a DD is only active once you have received a statement that clearly says ' the payment will be taken by DD on dd of mmm.
Does you statement show this?
If not, you need to make a urgent payment of at least the minimum amount or they will treat it as a late payment and probably cancel your 0% deal.0 -
Hi Clapton,
Thanks for your reply.
Yes, the current balance on the card is just over £200
and the credit card agreement states that I must pay the greater of 1% or an amount equal to the total of any Credit Card Repayments cover premiums, interest (or the minimum interest charge), over limit and late payment fees plus £5.
I haven't yet received a statement from the Halifax.
Thanks again0 -
If you haven't yet received a statement form Halifax why do you say the first payment is due 5th May?0

Hi there
Have you selected paperless statements on your online banking? If you have then you won't get anything through the post but you should be able to see your statement in PDF format online. If you have any worries about whether the DD is set up or not then I would phone their customer services. You could always made a debit card payment over the phone for the minimum amount but make sure you also have enough money in your account for the DD. That way the worst that can happen is you pay the minimum twice which is better that having to sort out a possible missed payment.0 -

If the minimum payment shown is £0, it may be that your first payment is not due until around 5 June.
For peace of mind, I would call customer services and ask. If you ring Card Services on 0800 3893456, you'll avoid the perishing 0870 numbersPeople who don't know their rights, don't actually have those rights.0 -

No I haven't set up paperless for the credit card account. My only problem with ringing them was whether or not they would be open today and/or tomorrow?

If you phone the 08457 number, it will give you a balance and payment due and last payment recieved etc. It's all automated. Am not sure if you will get an actual person today or not though.Got Halifax Classic to reduce my interest rate by 5% woohoo - 10/06/08 Thanks MSE!
Another 3% shaved off 10/12/08

Just rang the above number and spoke to a gentleman from the Halifax, according to him the payment due date is the 5th May but there is no balance shown on the statement for this month even though it has a balance of £200 online.
So therefore there is nothing to pay on the 5th May.
Thanks to everyone who helped - much appreciated :beer:0
