Vodafone Contract Huge Charges For Unknown Calls!!

I got a contract with Vodafone with a Sony Ericsson k700i phone. The contract was supposed to be 12.49 a month and my last bill was a whopping £120 summit quid! There were several charges on the bill that I didn't understand so I rang as I had done for 2 months previously and queried yet again what the charges were for. They told me they did not know who had made the calls and that one was to a freefone number for over 2 hours which amounted to £19, they said they could not give me the freefone number but would post it out to me - that was 3 months ago and I'm still waiting on it!the other excessive charges were calls made TO my phone but they did not know who called me at 2am!! I think I would remember if ANYONE had called me at that time of the morning.

Anyway my question is how come they are allowed to do that? They cannot offer me ANY evidence for anything and although they have said they would send out the bill with the freefone number I was supposed to have rung, they haven't done it, in fact they haven't sent me any of the itemized stuff as promised!! It is bad enough to get these kinds of excessive charges but when they say that I HAVE TO PROVE I DIDN'T MAKE THE CALLS, I am at a loss as I have no way of proving that! Has anyone any ideas? I have now bought a PAYG phone from O2 for the time being and am intending on writing Vodafone a letter explaining how horrified I am and I am willing to pay the monthly contract price but am very reluctant to pay for this mystery calls!???

    It seems that there must have been some sort of error, or someone used your phone without your knowledge - am assuming they havent since you didnt say it's been lost or stolen.

    I would speak to their customer services, make a note of who you speak to etc, and then follow this up with a letter saying whats happened - send a copy of the bill, highlight the numbers and send it recorded delivery. Follow this up again with a call about a week later.

    I wouldn't pay until the matter is settled, but you might have set up a direct debit, if so, when you speak to them again - ask about getting it rebated - mention this again in the letter.

    I'm not sure but sometimes freefone numbers aren't included in xnet minutes, or are only free from landlines.
  • I never phoned the freefone number either and even if I did I am sure I wouldn't have been speaking to anyone on a freefone number for as much as 2 hours! Usually those numbers are reserved for brief information only. No-one uses my phone only me so I will go ahead and letter write as I have already called them several times and got no where.
  • I have a mate who was getting silly bills with vodaphone it turns out the cause of the bills was multimedia messages he was receiving. He was being charged for receiving them even though he didn't want them.
