omg- i'm going to go mad! i've spent tonight arguing with my sister. not about the type of dress but the shade of the colour of the dress we want:mad:

she hates lilac, me & oh love all shades of purple and had firstly picked lilac as it seemed a popular colour to get in shops, ebay etc.

she mentioned to my mum she would pay shipping for a dress she could pick .

we then decided we preferred purple and no longer wanted lilac. she was overjoyed. we picked a dress together with the intent it would match the colour in my dress. we had put a budget of £50 for this, and she offerred to pay the extra as she wanted to wear it on a cruise afterwards. this would be £30.

tonight when i went to order the dress all hell broke loose. unfortunately landy bridal don't seem to do a deep purple so i asked her to pick between the most purple colours. she seemed to think they were both lilac when they seemed mid purple / violet to us.

she has now withdrawn her offer to pay the balance of her dress for the cruise as she is not happy with the colour. my aunt has now offered to make her dress (which bm is unhappy about and is saying she is too busy to look at patterns/ material etc until june 6th) so i'm really upset, and can't believe she'd make so much fuss about a few shades of purple

Dont mean to sound horrible, but its your day. Why is she trying to make it about HER dress??

Even if you wanted her dressed up as little bo peep, why should she make a fuss.

Its your day, and you have anough hassle to deal with anyway, without her causing you grief over a few shades of purple!!

It seems a bit selfish to be to be honest.
I know my spelling is shocking  It is alot better than it used to be though :rotfl:

Of course, you want to keep everyone happy, especially after all, it’s your day, but I'm sure you won’t want them to wear something you know they are going to feel uncomfortable in.
There are a great range of dresses to choose from whether you want sleek and glamorous or traditional and elegant. In this season’s Jewel colours ranging from deep reds and purples to vibrant greens and gold you’re sure to find something to compliment their individual skin tones.

This being said, it seems the BM in question is being a little awkward. It is your day and if there is no compromise (which you quite clearly have done) tell her to step down.
By the way, the lilac dress Julia Roberts wore in MY Best Friends Wedding was stunning, style and colour. Lilac is coming back into fashion.

Can your Mum/Dad/Aunt help by finding out what's going on & why she feels so strongly? My first reaction was your sister is being really selfish(which I still think she is a bit) but I wonder why she is digging her heels in, do you normally get on well? Could she be jelous? Does she not want to be a bridesmaid & doesn't know how to tell you? If you're close you could talk it through with her yourself, if not, enlist the help of a neautral family member.
Remember 2 things, 1-it is your day & others who are close to you should be making it easier not harder, 2-it is 1 day, is it worth risking your relationship with your sister over the shade of a dress?
Is it possible to get a darker purple dress off someone else such as Milly? Could you buy the style you want & dye it, I know dylon do a dark purple dye but have no idea how easy/difficult this is.
Hope you find a solution! Jx

I'd have a serious chat with your sister and tell her that its your day and although you wouldn't want her wearing something she wasnt happy with, she has to compromise and her being difficult is putting added stress on you that you dont need.

If she continues to make things awkward then tell her to make a proper decision about whether she actually wants to be a bridesmaid or not, and if she cant then you make the decision. Seems as if she is being uneccesarily awkward its a colour!?

All 3 of my sisters are being my bridesmaids and its my middle sister moaning about wearing a strapless dress, so I think we all go through it.

Synthetic fabrics do not dye well. Silk however is excellent but I doubt the fabrics would be silk at such competative prices. Good suggestion though.

my first thought when reading your post were exactly the same as what GonzoAston said. It is YOUR day so she will wear what YOU want because YOU'RE paying for it. If it makes you happy what you choose then she should be happy and considering she's your sister she's being selfish IMO and i would casually mention if she's not going to comply then you may find another bridesmaid.. that might make her realise.
