Sounds like the usual Thomson/Grundig power supply fault. Check it for bulging capacitors.

Yes, it's right next to it. Thanks, I am going to try moving the phone, it may not work, but it's worth a try.

Thanks to everyone else, I am going to try your suggestions. After that I think I am going to wait til the new card comes and then if it's still playing up get someone in to check out the problem. I was going to buy a new box this year anyway, so I'm tempted to do that just to see if that solves it.
Where's the best place to buy one?
